Thread: My Minty Blue Lagoon GLI thread

    1. 05-04-2019 11:10 AM #1
Hey all, I recently flew out to Cali to purchase myself a mint 1 owner GLI so with that dedication I think it’s worth to make a thread on it and I’m also looking to save the vortex haha. Anyways. Long story short my name is Hugo, i had lots of MK4’s in my life (25 years old now). I honestly loved the simplicity and style on them. Ive had a fully built to rare gem like my most recent One Owner TR 50k mile r32 (RIP 2004-2018). I think the r32 was the reason I flew out to buy this GLI, to fill in my broken heart of my tragic accident with my r32. With that being said. Here are some things I plan on doing to this car. I’ve already done a couple.

2005 Minty GLI (Minty is her name, suits her

      Things done
      •Full Monster mats/trunk mat
•Full r32 seats, Steering wheel, pedals
      •GLX Leather door cards
      •Euro switch
      •Bilstein Sport Shocks
      •Forge 007 DV
      •VXT GLI projectors
      •RMT 100+ radio
      •FK bumper inserts
•DeAutoLED interior + License plate lights
•3SDM 0.06 Wheels (Up for sale or Trade)
•42DD Turbo Back with 4In single wall tip (Race)
•H&R Race springs (debating on buying PSS9’s
•EuroCustoms Stage 2 with all deletes

      Things I’m looking for
•Window tint, not too dark as I want people to see the seats haha
      •Quality Coilovers (looking at PSS9’s)
      •Rotors+brakes (rears needs them lol)

I’m sure I’m forgetting some things so I’ll update

Here are some pics btw. And thanks if you read all of the thread.

Looks like an awesome car and I’m excited to see where this all goes.

I recently bought a 05 GLI from a salvage auction. It had rolled over and is also in the lagoon blue. Planning to swap the engine and trans into my 01 gls 2.0...

Thanks for the info. The check engine light actually went away but I’ll check that out if it comes back.

It was a deal I couldn’t pass up ($250+my seats) and I also want my GLI to feel a little bit like my old R32 :”(

It was a 38hr drive but it took about 2 days.

Ewwwww. 38 hours is real. I drive a 16 hour regularly and couldn’t imagine double that and in a ‘unknown’ vehicle. I would love to be able to use my GLi for heavy work supplies don’t allow it. I’ve been considering raising it back up some and loading it up just to see how it’d handle it.

It was a risk but the owner assured me the car was mint and this and that. She drove back without a hiccup which that right there proved her worth lol. It was a pretty fun experience with my wife and I. Here are some pics of the trip back.

I have a nice little update

I currently have some R goodies on the way, a Euro switch, RCN210 Radio, and some VXT projector GLI Style Headlights. Worked out a good deal from a fellow Vortex member on here.

Yes they do. They’re from VXTuning. Pretty cool how much they can customize them. I’m honestly more hyped about the Radio lol

I’m kind of confused on why you would do a 3.2 swap or make the whole R feel instead of just buying an R32. The car is super clean as is and there are a lot of people out there that want a GLI in that color as is.

That is later down the road, I plan on keeping the car forever. I’m just swapping interior bits to fit my style. Don’t get me wrong I always loved the r32 but I was always more of a sedan/wagon kind of guy. I also have a 6month old so a r32 is out of the picture.

It was a 2000+ miles trip back with rocks, bugs, and other things on the road, this helped keep the car clean from rock chips.

Great color. Might be the color choice for my 1980 caddy

      2005 Minty GLI (Minty is her name, suits her <img src="https://www.vwvortex.com/Anthony/Smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" class="inlineimg" />

      Things done
      •Monster Mats
      •Full r32 seats
      •Bilstein Sport Shocks
      •FK bumper inserts
•DeAutoLED interior + License plate lights
•Wheels are good for now as I love the RC’s

Things I’m looking for or need
•OEM goodies like, Euro switch, clear side markers, r32 bits.
•Window tint, not too dark as I want people to see the seats haha
      •Quality Coilovers (looking at PSS9’s)
      •Retro headlight like VXT
      •Rotors+brakes (rears needs them lol)
•DV, evap delete kit, stage 2 tune (yeah yeah
      typical mk4 kid)

I’m sure I’m forgetting some things so I’ll update.

Also I have came across a fault code that I believe involved my fuel cap, I already replaced it but about every 30 or so miles my gas cap light comes on once, then 5 miles later again and with my check engine light. I’ve read up maybe the purge valve or canister, haven’t hooked up vagcom yet but any help would be nice.

P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (large leak)

Here are some pics btw. And thanks if you read all of the thread.

      UPDATE

I received my goodie package last week and sadly one of the VXT Tuning glass lenses was shattered which scuffed up the insides. Luckily the box was insured and the headlight is going to VXT so they can rebuild it.

How’s everyone’s climate? It’s picking up here and will be in the 90’s+. Luckily I’m a Detail Manager and my workplace has heated and cooled bays for washing
