Anyone figure out what this stealing issue is? Seems to be very inconsistent and many theories..

I am in the south burbs of Chicago. I had stalling issues in the very beginning until I put a full tank of 93 in the car and it all stopped. What gas are you using?

I have been using nothing but 93. Tier one gas only, mostly Shell. And i must have jinxed myself. Yesterday temps hit near 50 and she stalled twice....

My car is at 2000 miles and hasn't stalled any over the past 1,000+ miles. Though I'm not sure specifically which thing fixed it, the stalls stopped immediately when the dealership checked my car for start/stop coding and never once came back. My PTSD is gone. I no longer stare at the tach every time I come to a stop. Most people have had the problem go away randomly after 1,000 miles or by using 93 octane. My stalling stopped around that 1,000 mile mark and after a few tanks of 93 ran through it, but I attribute the fix mostly to what the dealership did to the codes. Either way, I'm 100% satisfied and super glad that I didn't try to force a buy back or something drastic like that.

Might be time to bring it in. They will probably reset something. Worth letting them do it.

I forgot to mention that the car was in for check up after the first occurrence. They couldn't replicate the issue. They opened VTA case (i'm assuming VTA is Volkswagen) and were advised to reset ECU adaptation. I have an appointment set to have it looked at again. P.S. It has stalled again yesterday. It is very difficult to replicate the issue. I suspect that it has to do something with getting the engine a little hotter. The pattern, if there is any, is that when riding out gears, stop and go moderate traffic conditions...i think car gets hot enough and that's when it starts happening.

Drive semi aggressively to a stop sign and when coming to a stop press the brakes until you come to a complete stop. When you apply the brakes try to apply them a tad quicker than u usually do and make sure you hold it so you come to a complete stop. If you do this a few times in a row, say in a sub division where you can hit multiple stop signs one after another you should be able to replicate it. I took my 35th to the dealer and replicated it for them everytime. Pay attention to how your driving while it happens and try to remember exactly how you did it

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. Make's sense, as it falls in line what I've experienced. Any resolve with your car?

I have a 2016 GTI that hasn't had any issues, what changed on the new GTI's/GLI's that would be causing this except maybe the stop/start thing? Is something to do with the stop/start system behind the change to 0w-20 or whatever it is new oil recommendation, as if I am remembering correctly mine uses 5w-40? I was toying with swapping mine in on a new GLI for the increased back seat legroom but am somewhat scared off now...

I just purchased a 2019 GLI S, and it stalled 5 times before I made it home on it's maiden journey. It happens with spirited driving only, and on immediate braking and then stopping (similar to others). Besides Blue, has anyone else done the PR update and have fixed the issue?

I turned around and dropped off the car - was able to duplicate it to the service manager.

This happened to me just a couple times in 6 months of ownership, but yesterday it happened like 5 times consecutively in a Whole Foods parking lot.

The weird thing is, the car couldnt even idle after it stalled the first time, every time I pressed the clutch it tried to hold idle (very rough), failed and stalled.

And it didnt do it again on the way back home. No wonder dealers have a tough time replicating the issue.

Showed this to my dealership today the manager and the tech both told me it’s for the United States only, once again we in Canada get screwed. How is it only for the U.S if me and many people here are having the same issue. Should we not have to update our system as well?

Glad to see they seem to have figured it out. The same goes for the tiguan sunroof drains. They are actually getting results which is nice. Kudos to VW.

People on MKVII forums are saying that it has been confirmed for Canada as well...

So is this an official recall for an ECU flash or it is just the fix for those who have an issue? My car did it the third day I had the car but hasn’t happened since. Been over 2 mo and 1900 miles.

Picked up my 35th last week and drove from
SoCal to NorCal. Car Didn’t stall. I’m not waiting for the next maintenance or VW letter. Got an appointment at a nearby dealership tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes.

Awesome!! Thanks for the heads up. I was scheduled for an oil change today and asked about this service campaign. They updated the ECM without an issue.
