The dealer tells me the replacement headliner is no longer found in the parts catalog. Is this true? Where can I get a replacement?
Due to exposure to excess heat and age, the bonding agent holding the headliner to the insulation is going leading to the separation from the roof console and sagging around the visors. Any advice or suggestions will be much appreciated!

I have the same issue, and it seems the replacement has indeed been discontinued.
Your best bet may be to take it to a local auto upholstery shop and have them reupholster the headliner, either using the 'same' material (which you can source from this place: http://headlinerdoctor.com/headliner...ti-anthracite/), or some other material of your choice.
You can also do it yourself if you're the handy type; get the replacement fabric from the previous link, and then check some of videos out there that are useful as a general how-to, like this one:

      Good luck!

I've checked around to area dealers and their screens tell me the part was discontinued in January and there is nothing in inventory , so I'll have to go the repair route. My preference is to check out professionals in the restoration scene now. From now on, when I drop off my car to a dealer for service during the hot summer days, I'll pop the sunroof to prevent any further interior damage. I've reached out to VW for assistance on locating a headliner and was told they will get back to me by Monday. I'm very concerned that cost-cutting at VW will compromise their parts inventory moving forward.

If you have an independent VW-Audi repair shop nearby go ask them if they recommend someone to re-do the headliner. Mine recommended a guy who did an amazing job (looks factory new) for $450 in two days. I just dropped the car off at the repair shop and the guy picked it up from them. Two years later (in Texas summer heat) it's still perfect. Worth a shot...

I have the same issue and was curious if the windshield had to be removed to fix the headliner, I was told by a shop it was a must?

The windshield does not need to be removed to repair the headliner. Some places may remove the sunroof glass to avoid accidental damage, but there's no reason to remove the windshield.
If they're telling you so, they're either trying to justify an outrageous price, or they don't really know what they're doing. I'd find another shop.

See my post from 3 years ago.
      https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthre...ule&p=98703842

      Headliner material here: https://www.headlinerexpress.com/shop/

Call them and ask if they can find the anthracite. I used a Toyota color that was pretty close.

      Edit: They have anthracite TR4542

How can we find out if this part can be found in inventory somewhere else where our car was sold? VWOA and local dealers have been sending me to shops where I'm being told there is no way they can match factory.

I had mine repaired at the shop where all 3 local VW dealers send their customers for headliner repairs and for convertible roof fabric replacement. You just find a shop you like and have them order the fabric I listed above. Pretty simple. Or get it close (and still attractive) with the Toyata black/anthracite fabric I used. Just about anything will last longer than the factory adhesive. My 1984 Mustang SVO needed a new headliner in 1990 and the replacement has lasted until now.

If you need to know if the fabric can be obtained from the factory or anywhere, call Paul Barrett at www.shopdap.com He knows everything about VW parts.

You can try your luck online and look online on ebay/ecs/wherever for "1K3867501AK DD9" (this is the headliner part number). However, every place I checked when looking for a replacement of my own listed it as 'not available' or 'discontinued', so the chances of finding a original replacement will likely be fairly slim.
My suggestion would be to check the links that jwbekens provided and ask for a sample of the anthracite material. If it matches to your satisfaction, order the necessary length it and take it to a local auto upholstery shop and have them reupholster your headliner.

I took a ShopVac and vacuumed out all of the loose foam, then sprayed 3M contact cement up in there, waited until a bit of the solvent evaporated so it would tack up, and then re-bonded it all back together. It's been about a year now; seems fine so far.

Big difference in price between headlinerdoctor and headliner express. How's the quality on doctor's?

I did my headliner over with 3m spray glue high tach super hold 90. And a piece of gray fleece from the local fabric shop total cost was about 25$. Plus my time. It came out perfect. The fleece stretches and molds into the valleys and contours perfectly. If you want to see some pics email me. [email protected]
