The 'Central Jersey Meetup' thread group will be doing another Bear Mountain run next Sunday, May 19th. I'm starting this thread to gauge interest and to track those who are interested, and to provide meeting place and route information.

The 18 of us that went last time were all MK7 Rs and GTIs, but of course anyone can join.

For all of you who missed the last run, or bailed because of the rain, here's your chance!!

Neither MiamaBourne, who facilitated the May 5th run, nor I will be able to make it next week. If anyone has questions about the route, etc feel free to post here. I will cross post this on Golf Mk7's regional forum too.

Here is some good information from the previous thread (thanks MiamiBourne):

Bring a 2-way radio which is great for communicating in a large group, especially on a car cruise.

We will be using channel 5 and private channel 5.

A good radio as an example is this one but any FRS radio with private/family channels will due:

      https://www.amazon.com/Midland-LXT63...s%2C157&sr=8-3

This is a cruise and not a race. There are some nice back roads where you can drive spiritedly but you do have to be careful about hikers walking, bicyclist and other family around that are enjoying the area.

      Starting Run @ 9am
      Kanawauke Picnic Area
Kanawauke Rd, Bear Mountain, NY 10911

Looking to start the run at 9:30am

Stops for Bear Mountain Run: - Back on May 5 the road to the top of Bear Mtn was closed. Hopefully for this run it will be open.

      1. Kanawauke Picnic Area, Kanawauke Rd, Bear Mountain, NY 10911
      2. Tiorati Lake Recreation Area, 3200 Seven Lakes Dr, Southfields, NY 10975
      3. Appalachian Trail Parking, Elk Pen, Southfields, NY 10975
      4. Tuxedo Park and Ride, NY-17A & County Rd 106 & Kanawauke Rd, Southfields, NY 10975
      5. Kanawauke Picnic Area, Kanawauke Rd, Bear Mountain, NY 10911
      6. Perkins Memorial Tower, Perkins Memorial Dr, Stony Point, NY 10980

31.8 Miles and about 1hr of a drive. After the drives we hit up Table 9 (https://www.tablenine.com/ - 92 Roa Hook Rd, Cortlandt, NY 10567) for lunch. Highly recommended for lunch before heading home.

Link to Map for Google Maps (actually routes you):

      Picture of the route:

Last time was a lot of fun. I got a radio and hope to join next week, approximately 70% certainty.

Wish I could go! 18 cars showed up last time in the rain...I'm curious to see how many show up this time!

      Hope everyone has fun!

Wish I could go too, but sadly will be on vacation and returning that afternoon. Have fun! Once the weather starts being nice, instead of one nice day and then a week of rain, I'll definitely make an effort to participate.

Just checking-in. I'd like to join you all this coming Saturday. I'll bring my 8yo son, who's been bugging me to take him to another Golf R meet. I'll have to bail at 11am, but would love to join you for the drive part. Hope the weather holds up this time!

Yeah, no, I can't make it - per the first post.

All the info, route etc are in that post. I'm pretty sure others going were there a couple weeks ago.

Awe man, I miss the bear mtn runs/gtg's!!!
My first gtg there was back in 2005, iirc, with my year old (bought new, an OG) 2004 BMP (black) w/ cloth MK4 R32 (rare).
So many good memories there, minus my buddy Fati wrecking and being totally saved by God from death and escaping without a scratch in his mint 2004 DBP w/ leather MK4 R32 back in 2013?
Wish I can attend, in my RS3, and reminisce them good ole days.

      Great pics & video!

What a fantastic experience this was! This was my first meet up as a participant and had a blast carving corners with you people! No less exciting was finally putting names and faces to some of you fellow forum members and meeting so many WhatsApp group members too!

It’s one thing to read threads and drool over pixels of parts and cars. Another thing entirely to see everybody’s mod progress and different takes in person, to hear all the different exhaust setups, the smell the brake pads, tires and cat-less exhausts!

Here’s to keeping this ball rolling and expanding the turnout!

Ditto. Great meeting everyone, even though I didn’t get a chance to talk to you all. Beautiful day for a drive on those roads. Loved hearing the different exhausts.

Looks like a great turnout. It's great for people to finally meet each other and put names to faces for sure. Hopefully we can plan another one in June. Thanks to @davewg for creating the post and to the others that helped with the cruise.

Definitely looks like a great day. Thanks for the pictures and bumping up this thread. The end of the week got ridiculously busy for me, as was Saturday.

Hope to meet the rest of you if we get one of these on the books for June.
