1993 MK3 Golf CL Dutch Import 1998 MK3 Golf GL

I have always wanted to bring over a European spec MK3,in a specification not offered in the U.S.I started checking other sites across the Atlantic, just screwing around with the idea of actually doing this...I stumbled upon a MK3 Golf that seemed too good to be true, a genuine example, in Dutch spec, with all German documentation, and it was Windsor BLUE!It's a base model CL, with no options besides a roof. The example has covered 8066 Kilometers since new, and was being sold from a private collection.I have a acquaintance named Edward Sheets. If you don't know him, well, he started NewGermanPerformance years ago, and has since become a RI.I contacted him with the intent to buy this MK3,even though in the back of my mind, it was still just a fantasy...Well it wasn't!A few phone calls later, a wire transfer, and some shipping confirmations, and the car was on it's way to the U.S. to become mine! It's not exactly cheap to do this,so the MK3 I was going to go thru this trouble to import had to be my ideal spec.It had to be a 3 door MK3, Golf,in a base level trim with no power windows,ac,none of that stuff...And it had to be a museum quality car, something with super low miles, original paint, unmarked interior, etc...you get the point. When I saw this MK3, I knew I had to have it!This thread will follow the progress of this amazing MK3.This first pic was from the original advertisement.

      12/05/2018 Car purchased.

      12/18/2018 Delivered to the port.
These next two pictures are from the shipping company when they dropped my car off at the port...

During the shipping process,I was able to track the car as it went across the Atlantic...At this point, I became obsessed with it's location as it approached the U.S.!!!
      Vessel NAME VOYAGE HOEGH TRAPPER-15
Port of departure BEANR-Antwerpen ETD 22-Dec-2018
Port of arrival USJAX-Jacksonville ETA 09-Jan-2019

01/23/2019 The MK3 is clear of agricultural inspection, and free to leave the port! Here is Ed taking it to mainland!

01/23/2019-02/12/2019 The MK3 is serviced! So far we installed some KW Variant 1 coilovers,Autotech Clubsport control arms with R32 rear bushings, poly front,K&N air filter, and a Jetex stainless catback exhaust...I also had all fluids replaced, and alignment, as I wanted everything new since the car has never really been used.Future plans is to fit a entire NOS ABT tuning body kit, including lip, skirts, mirror's,and hatch spoiler.I am also looking for some Autostrada Modena's,and Euro Blue Flag Recaro's...Lots of good stuff happening soon!

Full detail and ceramic coat coming soon...

So a small update, but the beginnings of a big one.In my quest to renew everything underneath the car, I was able to find a complete set of NOS heat shields.I'm gonna go full blown OCD on this MK3, and over the next year I'm gonna go thru everything to achieve my final goal...The perfect MK3...at least the perfect MK3 in my eyes.Since we all care about pictures only, enjoy the NOS goodness...As I type this Cory is sending me some NOS ABT stuff as well. It's gonna be a good year!

      Very nice car.

i'll be installing a Jetex system on my Jetta GLX myself soon. How do you like yours?

i do have a question though. How in the world does a euro spec single point injection system get past US emission laws (when it comes to importation)? Or do they no longer apply for older cars like our Mk3s?

LOVE my JETEX system...Not too loud, sounds great.
As for my cars emissions...after 25 years, its exempt from that...PLUS,where I live they don't do emissions testing.

i must say i had a bear of a time procuring a Jetex exhaust system for my Jetta. Tim Hildabrand (Jetex USA) told me he had only a single system for the Golf Mk3. The systems for the Vento are no longer produced. Did you pick that single remaining one up? Mine is in process of being shipped over from Europe. Looks fantastic btw. Love the colour.

Hopefully you pick up some replacement parts for the single point injection for spares.

So as the CL sleeps over winter, all the parts gathering for her build continues.Genuine hella blue side markers thanks to Robin.Genuine Hella rallye style grill thanks to NGP,and Genuine euro GT bumpers from Classic parts in Germany, Genuine NOS ABT midwing thanks Cory, along with french ecode bulbs and covers,NOS of course.

Fall 2020 the CL should be finished.
