Thread: 1987 16V Gli makes audible buzzing sounds and then dies

I have a cis-e that I noticed would lose power and die when waiting in traffic/drive through. I heard a buzz and thought it was the alternator, but had that checked and it’s good.

The car dies intermittently, and is preceded by a buzzing sound that I can hear through my open windows. Once I wait a few minutes the car will start back up and the buzzing goes away.

      Any ideas, fuel pump?

buzzing is prob fuel pump going. where is the buzzing cominh from?? id try to figure out where. if buzzing is inside try swapping out fuel pump relay first. then see if its outside by the pump on right hand, most likely the pump is on its way out.

      Thanks man.

I’ll check the relay, is that buzzing sound more associated with the intank or external fuel pump?

external. should be same sound you hear when it primes at ignition except its constant.

when my pump was going i would tap it lightñy with a hammer

lasted a while. usually on hot days it would take a while to start back up..
