Thread: 8.5" wheel, rubbing @ stock height?

    1. 06-09-2019 01:25 PM #1
Considering new wheels and upsizing to 19/8.5". Would like to go wider without spacers. I am at Stock height.

I do not want any issues with rubbing.

Are there specific tire sizes that work for you?

You'll be 100% fine with 19*8.5. Stick with an offset around 45.

For tires, 235/35 is standard. 245/35 for a bit more meat. Either will be A-OK.

      Would 245/40 work as well?

Looking for a little more sidewall if it'll fit.

      Thanks

245/40 will be too much tire for a 19" setup. If you want that much tire you're better off with an 18" setup using that size.

Yep. Mine rubbed. I went back to the OEM tires.

Would my stock wheels off of my 337 GTI be ok? They are BBS RC’s 225/40/18’s.
      Would width be an issue?
I kinda want to just put em on and see what it looks like, lol.

Would be a different bolt pattern (5x100), would require an adapter.

you should have no issues. i'm running PS 4S 245/40/18on a 18 x 8 et 45 and lowered. no rubbing for me. I also did the fender liner screw mod as a precaution.

Thoughts on a 7.5x18 rim vs an 8x18 for the 2019R

Saw an older set of 18 Laguna GTI wheels that look very nice, just not sure what I am giving uo going down to a 7.5

Wouldn't go with a 7.5" wheel. 8" min in my opinion. Also would need hub centric rings since our hub is 57.1mm.

I'm running 18 x 8.5 ET45 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 245/40x18, and had an extremely occasional rub when hitting sharp bumps
at highway speeds. Some on this forum have mentioned that some Michelins run a bit bigger than other brands in the same size.
As Skinnersvr6 mentioned, doing the fender screw mod solved my issue. You could put them on, see how it goes, and do the fender screw mod if
necessary for your setup. Mine is at stock ride height.
