We relaxed our dress code at work, so I'm wearing polo shirts most days now. I need to up my game, I have a lot of shabby older ones, need to get some more. I'm a full-bodied American, so anything that offers a Tall size is great (I'm 6' with 29" inseam, stumpy legs and looooong torso, plus a little extra real estate in the gut...)

      Places I've bought:

-LL Bean: good quality, but heavy knit, not great in summer, plus not real stylish
      -UnderArmor: Meh
      -Polo: tend to be short/shrink
-Costco: cheap and good, but a little short
-Random golf brands: hit or miss and $$$

      Other suggestions?

Don't judge, but I've gotten a few decent polo shirts from JC Penney. They have big and tall sizes with quite a bit of extra length in the torso.

Wherever it's cheap and they fit right. I'm 6'1" with average to slim build and if there's anything that's been consistent over the years, it is the fact that clothes all fit differently. I'm shocked at how many people buy anything other than socks and underwear over the internet and have them fit right. I've had shorts that are in my waist size not fit right because of how they cut the legs, basically. Shorts should be the easiest of all things to fit right and yet - they often don't.

Good luck - but I really don't think there is any reliable shortcut to just going from store to store and trying everything on. You either buy them baggy so at least they're not pinching you anywhere, or you try on a ton of shirts to find the one(s) that actually fit right without being oversized.

JC Penny Foundry Big & Tall brand.

      Decent quality and often inexpensive.

Goodwill and Salvation Army. Zero sense to buy work shirts that I'll get ripped up doing a rack/stack at any retail prices.

...and they're all the random golf breathe shirt type.

About twice a year we make our way to Las Vegas and end up on the older end of the strip, down by the Peppermill Fireside Lounge and my wife claims that the World's Greatest Ross for Less exists basically right next door. I cannot fault her for that observation, as I typically walk out of there with about 8 polo shirts that I would otherwise not buy if they weren't about $7 each. That, and bundles and bundles of dress socks and underwear, that is what Ross is really good for.

Another vote for the JCPenney ST. John's Bay brand Polos. They are more than decent quality at $11/each. I have about 10 in various colors that I rotate through. They have weird sizing though, I'm 6' 190lbs and wear a Small. Their Mediums were way too big on me.

Yep. I tend to buy Lands End when they email me a 50%-off promotion code or at the end of the season. At the moment, when I drop on the Lands End site, it's 40% off with free 2 day shipping for men's polo shirts. code: PALM pin: 2879 With that discount, a supima cotton polo in a tall size is about $26.00.

If you want lighter weight for summer, look at Nike or Under Armor depending on your preference. They will be more comfortable and last well.

For heavier weight polos, I've started going to Orvis as the quality is excellent.
