I had an eventful morning yesterday.

      The bike:

My beautiful 2016 FLHR Road King I bought four months ago with 260 miles on it. It now has 3800 miles. It was side-swiped at 40mph, low sided, then somehow high sided. Damage on both sides. I just washed it.

I made a list of the parts I knew it needed.

      L saddlebag
      L saddlebag hinge
      L saddlebag reflector
      R saddlebag
      R saddlebag hinge
      R saddlebag lid
      Primary cover and gasket
      Both grips
      Clutch lever
      Clutch lever bracket
      Brake lever
      Fuel gauge
      L mirror
      L saddlebag crash bar
      L saddlebag bracket
      R saddlebag bracket
      Front crash bar
      Both rider floorboards
      Passenger floorboard covers
      Windscreen and a few supports
      L Spot light
      Spot Light mounting bar.
      Fuel tank
      Left muffler and end cap.

We're at $4900 worth of parts so far. Not sure if rear fender and some of the other brackets took some energy with that saddlebag drama or not. If so, we're probably close to $6K

The seat now rocks back for forth a little bit, so maybe the rear fender did move around a bit. With the exception of the bent brake lever It rode home OK.

NADA value is probably in the low $14K

I'm not a bike guy, but that sucks.

IDK if its totaled, but the adjuster will have some of the best framed, top quality, professionally shot damage photos to ever exist!

Best of luck on repair or replacement.

Balls! So sorry about the bike but glad you're well enough to be here and telling us about it. Was the other driver cited?

Me too, thanks, thanks, thanks. Still haven't been to work yet, but came out of it reasonably well.

I rode along on a low-side for 20-30 feet before it high-sided me to the shoulder. The weirdest part is that there is damage from the top of the windscreen to the spotlight. This thing must have taken a nose dive at some point. Must have been before the low-side, since it's on that side of the bike. *shrugs shoulders* I was just along for the ride.

Not with those shoes with a grey suit. We've been over this.

Fun fact, nobody in that photo is pushing a motorcycle. It was still in gear.

Now wait a minute... I'm totally confused at this point, which one are you, dammit? Are you the lady on the phone?

I'm glad you came out relatively unscathed. That is not the kind of "going for a ride" I want anyone to take. Stay safe out there. <-- not while riding/driving, of course.

I'm not a bike guy either, but that's a beaut.

They will total it. I bet they write it up as possible frame damage, the frame ALONE is a $6k item, plus all the time to swap everything over. Insurance companies don't risk it with bikes to rebuild them often. I had a similar accident at lower speed and they stopped tallying up costs at 70% value of the bike.

I'd argue that they were in fact loud enough. Their job is to save lives, not prevent inattentive morons from sideswiping you. McMike is still here posting.

It looked much better before the wreck.

      Sure glad you are ok!

My uncle had kinda same thing on his, but just one side damage, and the bike was totaled. I don’t remember details about values; he was at low speed, he didn’t have one single scratch. The bike didn’t seem to have too much damage either.

Insurance companies total most any motorcycle with the smallest amount of damage to get it off the road.
