I went through all of the different tech sub forums and not sure where we are supposed to talk about technical "computer" aspect issues? So I figured I would ask for a recommendation on what scanning tool I should pick up for my vehicle. It's a 2007 2.5 Jetta and this morning my check engine light got tripped. I have been having various issues with it now and figured the tool would be nice to have. I "believe" they aren't very expensive anymore so I figured why not.

Any suggestions on make / model etc?

Thanks and apologies if this shouldn't be posted here.

I suggest you should take a thorough look at this post about a full review of many types of OBD2 scan tool ranging from the cheapest to the most costly https://obdsolaris.com/

There are some types that can check engine light to choose, I try out one OBD2 bluetooth and I see it works so well up to now.

      Hope you enjoy it!

For VAG cars, I would strongly recommend VCDS.

I highly recommend Ancel VD500. I bought one from this post of the best VW scan tools https://obdadvisor.com/best-vw-scan-tools-review/ and it works well on my 2007 Passat. It does cover your 2007 Jetta.
