I feel like comparing it to used cars isn't fair. I'd honestly get an M2 Competiton instead. Obviously inferior in the bench racing Olympics but it has 3 pedals.

If we're talking used I like the C7 GS. I'd get a manual 3LT convertible which would probably eat the whole $60K, and possibly hold its value

      If we're talking troll answers I'd do a V6 Miata and a C216 CL600 lol

Cars that I would realistically buy before a c7 if I was spending $60,000 today

      manuel future classic

      Great handling

      All around daily

      Testosterone replacement therapy

Only going to go up from here in price, and will leave a c7 in the dust with a few mods

I like and respect the C8 immensely, but I don't think it's a car I'd consider. I don't need AWD or a back seat, and I'm not even no-manual-no-care, I just don't see myself in one no matter how much performance they can pack in at the price.

New cars I'd get at $60k (in order):
      • M2CS
      • Camaro SS 1LE + cash
      • Base 718 (would be higher but 60k doesn't leave room for the differential)
      • Shelby GT350
      • RS3

So you'd rather have a used heavier car that probably won't handle as well for about the same money vs new?

The best aircooled 911 I could get.

      Or a Raptor.

Or a used Raptor and dump the rest into making my old Miata #racecar.

I just couldn't do this, no matter my love of them. Every time I would get in it I'd feel like a sucker for having paid the 'purist' tax. They just aren't worth the money to me.

A Boxster GTS. It's the high water mark for this car and the past 2 BaT auctions have shown prices softening big time.

New? Nothing. C8 at 60K is unbeatable value.

Used? The best 996 GT3 possible for the money.

I played this game this year and decided to buy a Lotus Exige. No desire to trade the Exige for a C8. A Lotus Evora 400 trades around $70k, and I'd rather have the Evora.

We can buy multiple new vehicles with the $60k?

      Cool.

      Faster than a C8

      More practical than a C8

      I unbanned Patrikman.

I also originally banned Zuk & JIMP.

      Then I got demoted.

I love seeing all the Miata love on here as i'm a fairly new owner of an NC3 GT that's fairly modified for track use.

With that, my vote would be a Boxster GTS or S for that matter, or possibly the nicest 997.2 I could find. I've been on the track in both and they are incredible cars.

Hell a regular one is a beast. Esp with the extra displacement

If motorcycles are fair game... realistically I think I'd get a Street Triple. But for a big bad naked I'd wanna see about the new Streetfighter

I'll be honest though... I've ridden liter bikes, and they scare me. On the street at least they make things faster than I can handle

There's nothing new that I'd rather have, but used I might go for a Viper.

I'm in the "there's nothing new I'd rather have" at that price camp, and the "there's nothing in that layout that I'd rather have." Sorry, a C8 is better than any Boxster.

Used, however, opens up a LOT of choices that are pretty cool. But for me, I'd have to pull a Crispyfritter and get the newest Aston DB9 manual I could get.

Isn't the R34 importable under the Show and Display exemption? I don't think you have to store in Japan.

This is how I feel, too. The C8 is a tremendous achievement for GM, especially at it's price and it will be very successful, thanks in large part by the radical new direction it went and it's added appeal to the sub-40 crowd.

But if I'm spending 60K on something new I want to drive it daily, with my job that's tough on joints/back and terrible Wisconsin roads. IE something like an M3, ATS-V or Alfa Quad. For a weekend car I'd much prefer a manual and an open top.
I gave up dailing old and rare cars and became a normie.

I would also vote for Exige S / 240. However, it bothers me that everyone is carrying on about this mythical 60K Corvette that will likely never exist. By the time you add on destination, any paint color other than the 1 no cost color, the Z51 package, and all the sporty options it's going to be a 75K car if not more.

Interesting question though does anyone know if you save anything on delivery by doing the Corvette museum delivery option seeing as it is right across the street from the factory? I've never bought a Corvette but if I did it would definitely be worth the 2 hour drive but I would be royally cheesed if they still charged 6-$800 to deliver the thing across the street.

In what metric, performance/dollar? Certainly it is there, but so was the C7 vs. the 981 and so was the C6 vs 987. Performance and value are important but there's just so much more to a car.

at this point the discussion starts to sound like wine people: you can get a bunch of people to agree one bottle is worth $500 while another is worth $5, but that doesn't mean anything to anyone other than that bunch of people.

The "so much more to a car" might have been a great discussion 30-40 years ago, but technology, engineering advances, materials advances, and--most importantly--government regulation have all come together to create cars that are all very very good AND very similar in so many ways.

What's left is pure perception and tribal membership.
