    Thread: roof rack

    1. 08-13-2019 07:54 AM #1
Since our cars are getting on in years and Audi was selling less and less of the factory roof racks they have discontinued them. VW, however, still makes the one for the golf in our years and it even has a similar part number (1K0-071-126 vs 8P9 071 126). Anyone know if they are interchangeable? If you can find the one for Audi it is $400+ where as the VW one is $275-ish.

That's awesome.... but that is for a car with roof rails of which my car has none and neither do either of the part numbers I listed. they are both of naked roof cars.

Looks like you got the THULE Wing bar model. Did you buy it directly from Thule or some other source? I looked up the idea of buying the rails, clamps, and fitment kit separately to save some $$, and it seems like you can save about $100 or more.

I found a eBay retailer offering new rails, clamps, and locks for $420 combined shipped. However, that doesn't include the 5085 fitment kit for the A3. And everywhere I looked, that's $120. So, buying elsewhere totals $540, while Thule site sells the whole package for $560... without the locks, which is another $60... making Thule's price $620, plus I assume shipping on top of that (because they don't mention free shipping anywhere on their site).

I had everything from my MK6 Golf TDI. All I had to do was change the fit kit at the feet. I got everytihng off eBay (open boxes, used, scratched etc.) Saved some cash.

ARB 53 bars, 480R Feet, 1417 Fit Kit

I never looked at OEM bars since I didn't have rails.

Thanks. Yeah that was super convenient, your Golf TDI being compatible with the A3. For that year 2013, must be a little different somehow from mine. Fit kit for 2007 is listed as 5085.

It depends what bars/feet you want to go with.

      https://www.thule.com/en-us/us/fit-m...ks&q=3Bkv5hvpC

It shows both fit kits, but it depends on how you want to assemble your rack.
