Any feedback appreciated guys, but feeling is might need a new transmission.
So 206k miles on this 08 / 2.5 Rabbit, with new clutch at 162k. Started a year ago light rolling knocking when in neutral at idle parked or a stop light. Once pressed the clutch pedal that sound went away. It was only on and off, not consistent. Few months started at only highway speeds a fast knocking type rattle that got only louder at acceleration. Went away once clutch pedal pressed. Now this knocking rattle happens infrequently at city driving speeds, again gets faster with the speed. Over the weekend on one drive it got so loud thought the transmission was going to fall apart inside or something. Driving wise seems fine, I've been babying it since last spring the rattle started.
However am having an issue with the second gear going in during new england winter temperatures, car has to warm up properly if not the 2nd gear has to be shifted in very slowly otherwise locks up/grinds etc. And that is even with new fluid.
