I love the Lexus one. I also thought that the then-current Mazda logo looked like a Monarch caterpillar's face. It really does, actually.

Volkswagen did this like 10 years ago and all they did was add a thicker circle around. Its not going to be any different than it is now except look less flashy.

The new one on the golf looks like a b&w version of the 1967 logo almost exactly here

I know, right? I tinker with that kind of thing a lot (I’m a printer), but some don’t even see it. That said, this one is so far out I looks like broken word fragments.

To be clear, none of those changes affected anything on the cars themselves, especially the 1960 version. This was apparently print only, as I don’t ever recall seeing a photo of a dealership sign with the square around it.

Here’s a magazine ad from around 1963. It isn’t that square logo, though. I wonder if it was merely in brochures. I know I’ve seen it, but...

I can also say that customers didn't even know and/or realise there was a color difference. Most of the time it just created confusion and disgruntled customers. Express and Ground are actually two different companies entirely. Thier entire method of transport as well as thier tracking systems are completely different. They are owned by FedEx corporate, that's where the similarities end. However the decision to standardize the colors was done because of FedEx's acquisition of TNT in Europe. T

      Really?

It looks like something off of a 1951 blueprint. Is that perhaps the point?

Whatever. It doesn't make any real difference as long as the parts are in the right order. Even if they weren't it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Yeah, I guess that was accurate. It is pretty underwhelming. The fact that the W doesn't connect at the bottom is sort of irritating in an OCD sort of way.

I had been a part of a partial modernization of the old logo about 15 years ago.

Oddly enough, lots and lots of people felt that going away from the Chief Mascommah logo was a great disrespect to Native Americans. This was YEARS in the making but had the poor luck to launch at the same time as the "tearing down Confederate statues" thing was happening. There was all the usual maga-nonsense about letting "the snowflakes" take away these great symbols, blah blah blah. People were just way too upset about it. They are a big, modern bank now and they needed a new, modern logo that better represented them, while moving away from imagery that was clearly become more and more of an issue.

Our local HS sports team was the "Raiders" when I was there, their logo exactly that of the Washington Redskins. They've since changed that name and imagery more than once in the last 30 years to try and find the right fit.

      ----------------------------------

All that aside, my point is that people will flip their lids over this. The logo won't change much at all. And everyone's lives will go on completely unchanged because of it.
This entire post reminds me of something out of Parks and Recreation!

The new bank logo looks like a fiddler on a gondola.

So it's the '67 logo with the 'W' disconnected from the circle.

It looks old as hell, but I don't really mind it.

The new logo goes for the Windows 10 "flat" look as much as their 2000s refresh of the logo went for the airbrushed 3D effect of Aero in Windows Vista. It'll look dated in a few years when everyone starts adding a little depth to their designs again.

And yes, it bothers me that the bottom of the W doesn't touch the circle. It looks like fangs.

I agree on both counts. This won't age well, much like their window regulators and coil packs and warranty coverage. [/mk4jokes]
