In before all the people mad it’s not exactly like the old Defender from the 1970’s.
Hell, in before all the people who are mad we don’t LIVE in the 1970’s.

It looks the business to me.

I'm surprised it has a dedicated platform. I know some purists will think it's dumbed down, but I think it's as good as realistically possible and definitely less compromised than I expected. I'm impressed.

The pricing though, $100k for a Defender?

      https://build.landrover/C373E984

Try to do a 4 cylinder offroad bits only build and it's still $70k.

Agreeed. Think the front bit would've been better if it was metal.

Not a bad choice to have the bottom panels in a simple black plastic type, though probably could also do with being metallic (mass prohibitive probably though).

Don't like the paintjobs, the matte paint just makes it look more sophisticated than it needs to be.

Rest of it seems nice, especially on the five door version.

There will not be a farm spec pricing version, Land Rover hasn’t been focused on that end of vehicles for decades.

I think it looks great and everything we expected from modern Land Rover. Less compromised then it could have been.

People spend over $50k for Wrangler’s every day. I don’t see why Land Rover won’t sell every one of these they can at $60k plus.

I expect to see these everywhere in our expensive Vermont resort towns.

      ^^^ This.

Sporin's point about Wranglers is very well taken. I predict they have a huge hit on their hands.

Go buy a Wrangler S if you want a more spartan off-roader I guess. Or import an old Defender. Either way, nothing is really cheap in this space anymore.

Compared to the G 550, it’s a good deal. The GX 460 is the bargain of the group at this point. If Toyota ever updates it, I guess we can expect a large price hike.

Good thing the Jimny isn't sold here. It would hurt Defender sales.

If they offer the 2L diesel here, I'll be on my way to the nearest dealer to put a deposit down on a green 90.

Also, I spent many summers at a friend's farm near Cymmer, Wales. You better believe the farmers in the UK LOVE their Defenders. They use and abuse the hell out of em.

All of theirs were 90 single cabs with aluminum dog cages in the back for the sheep dogs. As the farmer said "blokes go in the cab, bitches (dogs) go in the cage."

Even after 25 years of hard labor, at least two of trucks are still on the road today:

rumor does suggest thats the case right? or maybe it was just the larger oil burner...

i looked at a few more of those launch videos. still think its gimmicky looking, but i may have to reserve final judgement until seeing one in person.

The UK configurator has both diesels available now, but nothing in the US yet. I'm not 100% sold on the soft looks, but when the suspension is raised, it's definitely carrying some Defender DNA.

The base Wrangler still doesn't even come with A/C. Whoever wants a true utilitarian offroader should head to a Jeep dealer.
