I would be highly skeptical of anything that is reported in this conflict.
      Exactly right.

Pretty good map. It's just missing the huge money and arms given to the Israelis and the Saudi-Emirati coalition against the Qatari. Oh, the unending hatred circle is in the wrong spot (it should be Iran and Saudi Arabia). Iran views most of northern Iraq and Syia as its legitimate successor states after of the end of the Empire. It's more of a benevolent father view than hatred. The Sunni and Ba'athist Arabic parts? Yeah, they hate that.

Brent oil is now down 7% today alone. It appears nobody who puts their money on the line thinks this is going to spiral out of control after all.

Because the Iranians wouldn't go for it. The one they went for had a sunset clause of ten years. After that, they could build nuclear weapons. That is why Trump (and many others) called it a bad deal. Iran has called for the destruction of Israel and them getting a bomb would be unacceptable to the Jewish state. Considering the Holocaust wasn't that long ago, I can absolutely see Israel going to war with a country ten times its size in order to prevent an existential threat (or, better yet, have someone else fight for them). The Saudis also see Iran as an existential threat. So, if Iran getting nukes would be unacceptable to Israel and would prompt SA to get one as well. If SA gets it other countries would want it as well. The only way to prevent this is by either stopping Iran from getting nukes or changing the regime there.

U.S. Satellites Detected Iran Readying Weapons Ahead Of Saudi Strike, Officials Say

U.S. surveillance satellites detected Iran readying drones and missiles at launch sites in Iran before Saudi oil facilities were attacked on Saturday, according to two Defense Department officials.

The imagery has not been publicly released. The officials tell NPR that U.S. intelligence views the activity as "circumstantial evidence" that Iran launched the strike from its own soil.

Saudi Aramco has said the attacks on its plants in Abqaiq and Khurais were "a result of terrorist attacks with projectiles." Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack, but U.S. officials have accused Iran of playing a key role.

      Iran has denied any involvement.

The two officials say the U.S. Defense Department has sent a forensic team to Saudi Arabia to examine wreckage of drones and missiles used in the attack. Intelligence experts say the outcome of those examinations could provide "compelling and convincing" evidence that Iran was behind the attack.

Hmmmm, ten year deal that was liberalizing the Iranian economy, had inspections that Iran complied with, resulted in political hardliners losing sway in the country and the potential to re-negotiate after ten years or no deal that resulted in Iran immediately restarting their solid fuel rocket program and enrichment of uranium. Tough decision .

Oh, and you actually take the "destroy Israel" rhetoric seriously? You do know that Israel and Iran had clandestine relations under Khomeini with the peripheral goal of containing Salafist influence after the collapse of pan-Arab nationalism, right? Or how about how Israel sold Iran wads of weapons and munitions during Iran-Iraq? Yes, there was a period of tension during Ahmadinejad, but that was going down under Rouhani until the whole Syrian situation exploded. You can thank the Saudis for that.

The reality is that there are rhetoric abused in both countries for political expediency and that there are hawks in both country. Thankfully, saner heads have prevailed.

"High probability that low altitude cruise missiles launched from Iran and moved thru Kuwaiti airspace. Some missiles fell short and landed in the North of SA (indicating they came from the North)" . drone enhanced (whatever that means)

These things came in low and covered what, 500 miles? 25 drones/missiles used.

I don't have a problem with believing that Iran launched them. Seems like a bunch of you prefer some other explanation.

Me? Chinese-Canadian. I am just a realist and understand that there's a difference between rhetoric that all sides use to rile up their base and what has actually happened behind the scenes. Iran and Israel have been bedfellows longer than they've been at odds with one another and they've flipped back and forth on various foreign policy issues. The entire region is screwed up and there are factions within each country--Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria and Iraq--each vying for power and some more sane than the others. Then you throw non-state actors like Al Qaeda, Jabba al-Nusra, the Taliban, Hezbollah and the Houthis into the mix and you've got a cocktail for chaos where it's very easy to point fingers.

As for the attack, it is increasingly looking like it was Iran, but again, I would wait until open source groups like the Middlebury Institute or Ankit Panda at FAS get to dig into it.
