    Thread: Bought my first truck!

    1. 09-27-2019 05:23 AM #1
      Hello everyone,,
I'll give the short story. Customer over heated his truck and blew a headgasket. He didn't want to fix it, so I bought it. details.

      95 Ranger XLT
      -4.0L
      -auto
      -4wd
      -power windows and keyless entry
      -a/c that works!
-badly blown head gasket (s) and or cracked cylinder head.
-high miles 170k highway he claims
-but its from the original owner who bought it at the dealer I work for.
      -never been wheelin
      -never towed anything.
The plan is to flip it but I'll probably end up driving it depending on how much I put into it. and how well it drives.

Sounds like a good project. I like the simple styling of those trucks.

As this is your first post, it's probably worth pointing out that this particular sub-forum is pretty quiet. By all means keep us updated, but if you have Ranger-specific questions, I'd bet there are more active forums.

That year should still be the OHV 4.0L with iron heads, pretty hard to kill. Should be an easy to swap the gaskets.

How are Ranger values in your area. Always do a calc of what you need vs what the truck goes for on the open market, and then overestimate your parts cost and underestimate the values you see. Chances are that’ll be close to what you’ll make on the truck.

      Good luck!

Wow! Wow! It's a really nice strategy to buy a second hand truck instead of buying a brand new one as long as you know how to fix a truck. The problem is that you're still fixing it for a nice maintenance, but it's really not a problem if you know how to fix it. Good job! Good job!
