      https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...pagani-huayra/

We're big proponents of using a track-ready road car as it was intended. Sure, it's great to be all flashy, loud, and uncomfortable on the street, but the best place to actually use these cars at speed without getting arrested is on a track.

The good thing about a track is that it's a controlled environment. Even though the speeds are higher, there are also more safety precautions. The bad thing is that higher speeds place more of an onus on machinery and the driver, and a mechanical failure or human error is immediately exaggerated.

      That's what we have here.

During a track day at Monza, one of the fastest tracks in Italy, a 911 GT2 RS hurtles through the brakes zone for the tight turn one directly into the side of a Pagani Huayra. While we don't know if the incident was caused by a driver who missed a braking point or a broken part, we do know that this caused a lot of damage to both cars. Interestingly, the Huayra's passenger side door also opened during the crash, which doesn't seem to be the best for crash protection.

Both cars stop nearly immediately after the crash, and the driver of the GT2 RS can be seen getting out at the very end. Thankfully, it sounds like all involved were ok.

Don't take anything to the race track that you're not prepared to push off a cliff and say goodbye to. Huayra's are still in production today and Pagani still exists to serve customers. No one got hurt. It's just money and both parties have lots of it by the looks of things. No big deal, really.

I think more people need to realize that most street cars have a huge mismatch between their speed capabilities and their crashworthiness. This is what makes supercars especially deadly - they're as fast as many race cars but don't have FIA World Endurance Championship levels of crash safety equipment.

At the end of the day, this is all that matters.

"ZOMG WATCH IN HORROR!"... Nah, this is just a couple track toys doing track things. Wrecks happen. 4x4s roll. Engines blow up. Part of playing the game.

Exactly what I was going to say!! Unless you're on fire, you stay in your car, doors closed, belts fully tight until a track marshal says it's safe for you to exit the vehicle.

Watched the video and as soon as the 911 came through I just said "dumb-ass" instinctively.

Yeah I don't really want to think of a rollover situation in that Pagani. I mean it looks like a BC so whats that $5m???? There's no excuse for those doors not staying closed especially with their expertise in carbon fiber structure (though the latch may have failed itself).

ANyone know which turn that is? While the Porsche looked like it may have been going to fast, the Pagani also looks like it was babying that corner.

As for the door, I don't know specifics about Pagani, but don't most manufacturers with gullwing/scissor type doors design them to pop open in the event of a hard impact to avoid trapping the occupants should the vehicle roll over?

Uhhhh, regardless of the Pagani that 911 didn't stand a chance at making that corner.
