I'm in the DC area and was recently quoted $749 for Prime XR at 35% for sides and back windows. This is my first time getting tints - is that reasonable? Crazy?

Also any other brand recommendations would be appreciated.

      In Canada a tint job on a GSW runs 200 - 400 CAD$

In Seattle, which I'd think is a similarly expensive market, 3M Crystalline was quoted to me at $600. That would be 3M's comparable film.

I went with 3M Color Stable, and it was $370. It's a bit darker/charcoal film. Very happy with it. I did 35% on the fronts, 20% on the back, visibility is fine and it keep the back cooler for the dogs.

I think that the installer matters a lot more than the brand of film, as long as it's a high-quality film. So, I'd research that more than the actual film, IMO.

You can go with Xpel, or Pinnacle F1 as being the best material for tint. Not cheap though, and yes, go with a quality installer and with am unlimited warranty.

Going to have to shop the quote around for sure. Thanks for the recs!

Can anyone speak to the quality of the Solar Gard films?

I had all mine, except the front windows (stupid state statute or law about tinting the front ones), done here in North Dakota for $250.00. It would've been $350 for all, but I decided not to give Johnny Lawman an excuse to pull me over. The local shop did an outstanding job I think, looks great. I'm not sure of the %, but it's the same as factory privacy glass tint would be, so not super dark, but I didn't want super dark in any case.

I too am in North Dakota and paid $240 for 3M ceramic on all windows except the little triangle. I also had them put paint protective film on the B and C pillars to protect the glossy piano black paint from scratching. Glad I did. That was an additional charge.

I got ceramic tint (llumar) on my car on all windows except the small triangles and windshield for $370. In calling around I could’ve had it done cheaper, but convenience overcame.
This was in Raleigh, NC which shouldn’t be priced significantly different than where you are.

I’d call around to as many reputable shops as you can and check yelp/google reviews, unless you have some word-of-mouth recommendations.

The price you were quoted is too high.

tint prices are very very location based, same film one place could be 250 another could be +5-600, best bet is to call around and see what film they use. I'd rather go with a better film than just based on price.

Lumar Stratos or Huper Optix is prob still the best on the market. I settled with Pinnacle F1, which was about 100-150 cheap than Stratos.

That doesn't seem too off. Are all those right in the DC area? The prices I got were a tad bit cheaper... but also well outside of DC.
Warranty is also something to consider. Not all warranties are equal.

$749 is absolute highway robbery. I don't care WHAT tint you get. I got 35%. No clue what brand used. Don't care. Looks perfect. Cost me about $300, IIRC.

Yep, these are DMV prices - MoCo specifically. All of the shops I got quotes from offered some version of a "lifetime warranty" but thanks for the heads up, will look more closely at that.

I'm with ya. $300-$500 seems to be the sweet spot around here at a reputable shop.

Not really. XPEL's top tint blocks like 98% of UV and infrared heat. Sure it's not something that everybody cares about, but it's way different than a $300 vanity tint that is strictly for looks and provides little to no functionality.

If you need another suggestion, AP Tinting is maybe an hour-ish straight north of DC (southern Carroll County I think). I've used them for 2 vehicles now, some friends and family cars have gone there as well. Great shop.

Up in Sykesville? If the work and price is both good - I'd make that trek - nice drive too up 97! Thx for the rec!

Llumar ceramic (Pinnacle - their mid-grade) was ~$400 in Richmond, VA area. 50% fronts, 35% rears (legal limits). Have had Llumar on 4 vehicles...good stuff.

Good to hear! The majority of the shops I got quotes from are using Llumar products - will likely end up there. Seems to be most bang for your buck.

You can tint the front triangle windows from the outside.

Actually, if you call around, you will be able to find some shops that’ve made a tool to tint the triangle windows from the inside too!

to each his own, i picked out tint for heat and uv rejection not "style and looks".

Agreed that $750 is crazy but I paid $160 for the roof alone in F1 Pinnacle 45% and the heat rejection is absolutely amazing and well worth it. I was quoted $450 for the rest of the car @50%, I'm just waiting to pull the trigger.

Good to know! Was planning on doing the triangle from badgeskins if the tint shops were having trouble.

I did FX Premium 3M 20% all-around for $269. Some of those quotes look really high.
