Good afternoon, I have a 1997 VR6 jetta and I have problems replacing the coolant sensor, my jetta has a brown 4-pin sensor, a blue 2-pin sensor and a yellow 4-pin sensor, the yellow sensor cannot find any parts store
Anyone know in which store I can buy it or if there is any replacement for this sensor?

That’s the Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor for dash temp gauge, and after-run coolant fan control thermal switch. Get the part number off the side of the metal portion and go to the dealer or look it up online. It’s probably superseded.

They don’t show it. I used to work at the dealer and could look all this up and help him but don’t have that option anymore:

You are right, the function of that sensor is to indicate the temperature, but it is causing me a failure and I cannot find its original or generic replacement

No worries. Get the part number off the side and call the dealer. If they’re competent enough, they can look up a replacement. It may not be yellow anymore. I’ve seen some black ones with a yellow plastic ring around them. Only the part number will tell.

I have two jettas mk3 one 2.0 and one vr6, the 2.0 engine uses the black sensor with the yellow ring as you say. What I did bought me a black sensor with a yellow ring and I put it on my vr6 and it works if it shows the temperature but the car continued with the fault.

The sensor I removed (the original) brings this number 51-94 701919369B

The yellow sensor has been superseded to 701919369D, its now black with a blue stripe.
Some shops sell aftermarket that is blue with a white stripe.

Ignore the years and model in the ad below, the part # is correct for a Mk3 as shown in their pictures.
