Affordable mid-engine Hyundai confirmed?

Hyundai revealed the latest prototype of its mid-engine sports car today at the Los Angeles Auto Show, dubbed the RM19. A Hyundai insider with knowledge of the RM19 project confirmed to Road & Track a toned-down version of this car is heading for production.

They've been working on this for a while, this is RM19 which means there were 18 concepts/tests before this. Motortrend drove one

If they really do come out with a mid-engine Veloster, I will trade my VN in a heartbeat.

I would still take the Renault over anything Hyundai makes.

They had a mid-engine ringer prototype spotted ripping at the n ring a few years ago.

Since then, the project has went through several iterations (RM16, RM17, RM18, RM19 = current). To me, it seems like Hyundai is one of the only OEM's that's pushing a new enthusiast brand hard. The N cars are true enthusiast cars, and they have a bunch more planned. I might put my money where my mouth is if the production version ends up being sub ~$40-45K w/ manual.

LOL. Hyundai has made great strides in their QC. And the Veloster N is a hoot to drive per almost every journalist who has driven it. Add a mid-engine to it (which is insane in this class) with over 300HP?? OMG:

Negatively criticizing a car that doesn't yet exist from a company that has made leaps and bounds in the last decade makes you look reeeeeally open minded.

Also, have you driven any Renault in your life? I'm guessing you've never driven a Clio, so you're comparing a car you've never driven to a car that nobody has ever driven.

I couldn't picture anything like this long ago when Hyundai made it's debut with the $4995 Excel. All those years after that Hyundai just came off as cheap and generic, until they tried ditching the generic label by letting Peter Schreyer design for them.

The RM19 TCR car is two door, so it looks like you just may have your wish.
