I picked the Camaro but the Camaro SS 1le is well over $40k with no other options...

30K car needs to be compatible with 30K operating expenses. So Mustang and Camaro out. I voted Civic because it is so well all rounded. For whatever reason, I find the GTI somehow boring.

As others have said, SS 1LE breaks the bank but that’s what I’d want. Not sure I’d go for a 5.0 without any of the PP options or Toyobaru.

      Hell yeah, now we're talking

BRZ for me, of course. MSRP of the Limited w/Performance Pack is technically above $30k ($30,940) but I paid under $28k for mine.

The aforementioned examples are all below $30K as advertised.

GTI..I miss mine, awkward 1-2 spacing and all.

      ND Miata is tempting though.

I voted for the GTI in this poll because it's the most upscale car of the bunch.

Indeed. Importantly, the BRZ you posted is a proper Limited w/Performance Pack car, as it should be (the $1195 for better wheels, better suspension, and better brakes is a steal).

BUT my post has nothing to do with that. I was simply stating the MSRP of that car in relation to the arbitrary dollar cap placed on this thread, and then contrasting that with what I paid to give another data point. I wasn't trying to invalidate anything you posted

Wouldn’t trade my S2000 (which I paid $22k for) for any of ‘em.

Voted with my profile. But now you can get the LT1 trim Camaro SS, which should be very close to your target $.

      I'll take the GTI.

Bump it up to $40K and I'm looking at musclecars.

What are the specs of yours? What color did you get? Please tell me it's either a Neptune 86 GT with TRD Handling Pack, or a Hakone Edition

A 1LE is a $40k car, not $30k so that's out. A Mustang GT with any performance pack is also a $40k car, so that's also out.

In 2020, for 30k, you're buying a FWD car or WRX. Personally, if I was stuck at 30k, I'd only consider a mkVII GTI or Veloster N. Driving both would make the decision for me rather quickly I'm sure.

Very reluctantly BRZ. Seems pretty old at this point to justify spending $30k for it, but it's still RWD, and I'd rather have an optioned out BRZ than a base Mustang GT or Camaro SS. The Si would be my second pick but it doesn't offer any advantages over the BRZ other than being newer and it's FWD.

Tough to choose between the GTI and the Toyobaru.

GTI SE- best all arounder. Jack of all trades , master of none.
At 30k buyer is likely not looking for a specialty car - e.g. weekend driver only.
