The biggest issue will be that if TCL one day goes away, most of us will not know how to contact each other. That would be sad
I've made it a point to try and mingle with natives when I visit somewhere that's not home to me. By natives, I mean TCL members that reside in the city I'm in. So far I've got the phone numbers of just about everyone I meet, and we chit chat regularly. It's definitely not a forum, but it works.

In the end though, I'd too be very upset if this place goes away. I think of the changes I've gone through as a person, car enthusiast, the relationships I've gained and lost, and this place has been a constant for the last 12 years. I'd hate to lose that.

For sure. I’ve met hundreds of people from Vortex and TCL, and some of them I consider very good friends. It’s through this place that I have a lot of connections, so it would be sad if it slowly faded into that good night, but I think I’d continue talking to the people that I’ve enjoyed throughout the years.

Pretty much. I love how we have gone from oogling over 1.8Ts to oogling over family cars.

I don't even recognize the person who signed up as me back in 2000 anymore. And that's a good thing.

Oh come on now, the 1.8T was found in Jettas and Passats - Both family cars.

Sure, if you wanted your family to sit on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck.

Exactly, this place is pretty unique. I have never found another forum that has this level of broad, informed, automotive discussion.

I know I've connected through other social media, and in-person, with a few TCL'ers. It's how folks found out I was nearly dead* 3 years ago. If users have been here a long time, they owe it to themselves to reach out to the folks they enjoy most through other channels and connect.

I'm all for a clean car, and lowering for performance reasons, decent wheels, etc... but this "stance" crap sucks.

I used to hate wagons, autos, and turbos. All I wanted was a 2dr 6cyl with a stick-shift. I'd lower & mod everything, and drive that shît year-round on the OE all-seasons.

Now my daily is a FWD mini-SUV on snow tires, and my fast car is a turbocharged sedan with only two pedals.

      A lot happens in 20yrs
      I unbanned Patrikman.

I also originally banned Zuk & JIMP.

      Then I got demoted.

I'm not too far off on that myself. It's been intermittent at times, but I was definitely into it during the reigns of Tomac, Missy, Overend..

Mine was last week. Pretty crazy to be part of an online community with some of the same people for two decades.

Especially since I never got a VW until 2014.

Nice to see so many OG's on this thread.

I think the main reason for longevity is because of the variety of users- so many different enthusiasts in all sorts of areas and an endless variety of content.

I also think the clean layout and interface has always been a plus. It just looked nicer than mostly every other forum out there and that cannot be discounted.

5/5/01 was my join date. The very day I bought my only brand new car, an '01 Jetta Wolfsburg. I lurked for a couple months prior, but I registered the day I bought it.

Those damned RXII's just spoke to me. They still do.
The above post may contain opinions, coarse language, offensive terms, spelling mistakes, and/or improper grammar. You have been warned.
