I was just thinking about how I never think of visiting eBay when I'm looking for a car. Maybe car parts, but not vehicles. It's always Craigslist, BaT, Cars.com, or Autotrader.

So that got me thinking, am I alone? Do others still visit the site regularly looking for auctions? Even on this site you rarely see anyone reference or link to an eBay auction.

If I'm being honest, until I read this I forgot about buying cars from ebay.

I don't look with the serious intent to buy a car. I just go there sometimes for window shopping and to pass the time. I've got many saved searches, such as "Dinan" and "(race, racer, racing, raced)." I use BRZO for much the same purpose but to find interesting cars listed on Craigslist. One day when I'm seriously car shopping I'll look anywhere and everywhere to find what I'm looking for as I tend to like cars that are a rare spec and unlikely to appear in my local CL.

Been shopping for a specific model for the last year and only ever used CarGurus, AutoTrader and Cars.com. Ebay was mostly the same listings as those for dealer ads anyway and I wasn't interested in private party. Ended up buying a car on Black Friday off a Cars.com listing that popped up before the other sites.

It depends on what you want to buy. I think Ebay might be a good place to look for something older/rarer.

I used to regularly browse Ebay Motors until around 2014, and then stopped. I just frequent BaT and AutoTrader now. I occasionally buy auto parts from Ebay, but that's about it.

People are definitely still listing cars on eBay, but buying and selling both have become kind of a nuisance there.

eBay used to be my go-to for daydreaming, seeing the market, seeing 11ty billion obscure pictures of Ferraris, Porsches, etc etc.

Now I use BaT for that purpose.

I usually actually acquire cars from a dealer.

I think it's still decent for mainstream driver quality 60 and early 70s stuff.

For example, 60s Mopars: I was looking fairly seriously for a 68 or 69 Road Runner last year and much of the interesting stuff was popping up on eBay. BAT isn't that good for old Mopars and the ones on Hemmings are usually over-restored or overpriced. Autotrader is so so. Craigslist is still solid.

However, I sold my 72 Chrysler 9-passenger wagon on BAT because I didn't think anyone would be actively searching for it on eBay. Whereas everyone went nuts for it on BAT and it got bid up.

I was trying to sell my 2003 M5 this fall with a rebuilt title. After it was denied by BAT and didn't have any luck finding buyers with money on various BMW Facebook groups I gave eBay a try. It didn't meet the reserve the first attempt but the second time it did. In the end i'm glad there are still multiple options. Pic of M5 BAT denied

When looking at vehicles I hadn't considered eBay in a while but there is still some nice inventory there.

Bought a motorcycle on Ebay a few years ago... went quite well and it was something I couldn't find locally so it worked out

I could never bring myself to trust a purchase as big as buying a car from eBay.

Having bought and sold 20+ cars on the used market over the years, my faith in humanity has been shaken to the core.

You are placing a lot of trust in the seller to give you an accurate description of the condition of the car.

I sold a vehicle a few years ago on eBay. Was a show truck I built and it went very well as a seller. Sold a motorcycle in there too. Never bought a vehicle though.

Sold my E9 on eBay back in 2016. Don't know if it still works though. BaT wouldn't agree to my reserve, thus I sold it on eBay for more than the reserve that I wanted on BaT.

x2. While not mainstream, I look for AMCs from that era, and ebay appears to always have the best selection.

It's amazing a small startup like BaT is now the go to versus a giant like eBay.

Except for SoS, because he's got high reserves. Mr. Fancy.

I've noticed CL has taken a major hit since charging $5 per ad for autos. Facebook marketplace seems to have taken a big share of what would have been posted on CL.
