Keep the GTI. Forget all the trendies.

After all, these EVs are nothing more than a shell game. You're just moving the fossil fuel burning to the power plant.

Assuming your area uses fossil fuel for energy production. And... like a lot of math in favour of the ICE car. This theory has been debunked over the years.

I think most of the cars he is looking (wanting) at are faster than his 993 (unless its a Turbo which I dont think it is). But yeah, I know, the 993 is not about 0-60.

I would get a MB C400/C43 with a sunroof and a loud Armytrix exhaust.

The real benefit of the EV is it is power source agnostic. You can make electricity from just about anything and you can make it just about anywhere. Environment aside, energy diversity is a good thing. Besides, EVs have a lot of advantages for the driver that have nothing to do with the environment.

You forgot one thing, the Gen 2 has about 30% more battery.

My wife can get almost 70 miles on a charge (albeit during the warmer months) and that means about 2 tanks of gas a year.

35K miles, it's stone-cold reliable. Best hybrid built yet. Only gripe is even on the Premium, no power seats, sunroof or garage door opener.

BTW - I kinds think it looks better than Gen 1, but to each his own taste.

To be fair, renewable energy only accounts for 15% of domestic electricity produced in the US, so despite an EV appearing clean it drives, its not entirely the case.

Well, in places you can buy your own power, you can purchase 100% renewable if you want. Obviously it all comes from the grid, but folks purchasing renewable power up demand on the renewable side. You can also do rooftop solar.

But even if your local power is mostly dirty coal, EVs are far more efficient than even the most efficient ICE cars.

Even if 100% of electricity generation was fossil fuel (it is not, and is steadily shifting towards renewables), it would still result in greater efficiency and less pollution. Please spend time educating yourself about the difference in Carnot efficiency of power plants vs car engines. http://news.mit.edu/2010/explained-carnot-0519 instead of repeating climate-deniers talking points.

For any given amount of fossil fuel consumption & CO2 pollution, a power plant (40% efficiency) and EVs can result in roughly twice the distance driven vs. Individual ICE engines in cars (20% efficiency).

As fossil-fueled generation is replaced with clean sources, the EV fleet becomes cleaner over time.

Don't worry, we all have times when we fail to live up to the expectations we set for ourselves. I hate grey/silver cars, and I have *two*. Like how did I get here. This is not my monochrome car.

Hell, I bought a goddamned grey SUV. Does it get more basic than that?

The ELR is much more expensive and with only two production years (2014 and 2016), parts are soon going to be difficult to find.

I ran insurance quotes on the S3. WTF. It's just like the Tesla. My insurance goes from $1700 to $3200 and this is with multiple carriers. I don't get it...

Article is great too. Talks about CO2 output for the manufacturing stage of the car, and what would happen if the EV was charged off of fossil plants. It conveniently forgets to mention that oil doesn't just magically appear as gasoline at your local Shell station.
