Yeah, the publicity can be good (thinking Kyle Bush and the LFA), but OMG these were GM employees in company cars, the PR nightmare needs to be dealt with accordingly.

"The engineers have been suspended and will no longer have access to company vehicles."
"The engineers have been terminated and no longer work for Chevrolet.

Whether they follow through or send the engineers to Cadillac or GMC is another thing, but Chevy needs to make a PR move with this one.

There is an opportunity for GM here if they have some kind of HPDE/track day partnerships in place. And if they don't have them they should start ASAP. "Make Nissan Brougham drivers total their cars at closed road courses of your choosing!"

At my engineering firm we are required to submit any traffic infractions that we receive while employed by the company. I don't remember that being a rule when I worked at FCA however.

Not sure why a CAE engineer would need seat-time in the cars anyways, but that's a different topic altogether.

I saw 3 Kia employees doing this sort of thing in 3 preproduction Stingers a ways back. They had the mfg plates and were playing cat and mouse weaving in and out of traffic and driving like *******s. This was during rush hour as well.

We have a lot of manufacturer facilities around here, VW, BMW, GM. This was the first time I’ve seen anyone with MFG plates driving like a complete tool bag on public roads. I would imagine you lose your job if you screw up.

CSB: I met one of these guys. He brought the red car to my work to show it off to an ex-GM guy.

I hope Chevy follows up and lets us know what they did.

Need to know who's right or wrong in this thread.

      "...the scent of alcohol..."

You know what? Drunk driving will get you fired from any company no matter what your role is.

Street racing the hot new unreleased GM car after imbibing to the point where the cop smells alcohol on you? There's not an HR person or corporate lawyer that's interested in "but these guys are really valuable members of the team".

And just to be clear, pinning the throttle on a "Fast car" on an onramp going from 20mph-80mph is very, very fun.
Unpopular opinion: “slow car fast” as said by most people is code for “low approachable limits are agreeable to my level of skill.”

Yeah, that’s where I really draw the line.

If this were sober and on a freeway, that’s one thing, but in a 45 while intoxicated is a whole different story.

That is IF that is the case.

But that speed in a 45 is still pretty bad

Maybe. 45mph roads with lots of houses, businesses, traffic, etc, sure. 45mph roads which are in the middle of nowhere? Meh.

If it was the latter and I work for a competing sports car maker, I’m hiring these dudes and putting out a press release “we aren’t afraid of guys who drive our cars the way we built them to be driven” or something, throw some serious shade at GM

120mph in neighborhood areas, racing, having come from a bar, and documented by the cops:

In this case it would be more like, "we don't care if our guys go out in the neighborhoods, to neighborhood bars, go drinking, then take our unreleased hot cars around neighborhood roads at 120-130mph while racing each other. Suck it, GM."

      That would be Musk.
