In this case it would be more like, "we don't care if our guys go out in the neighborhoods, to neighborhood bars, go drinking, then take our unreleased hot cars around neighborhood roads at 120-130mph while racing each other. Suck it, GM."

      That would be Musk.

Dude holy hell. First thing, the 2nd article was missed. Relax. 2nd, the report mentions scent, but if the trooper actually thought then he would have probably performed a field sobriety test, which wasnt listed in the report either. 3rd, pump the brakes on your false accusations. No evidence yet indicates they were drunk. Innocent until proven guilty.

no, a bunch of people who can't follow a forum thread apparently have nothing else to do while waiting for Judge Judy.

Not in the offices of GM corporate lawyers when it comes to GM's at-will employment policies.

Cops "detected a scent of alcohol" enough so that they put it in the arrest report? GM has no more use for these guys.

Nice use of the passive to try to deflect responsibility. "Was missed"??? Oh, I see. "Missed" just "happened" out of thin air. Yeah, no.

YOU missed it. Own up to it.

Not sure how...after all, you did manage to see my response to it, which came after it was posted. And it was full of pictures and everything. How did you miss that only to see stuff below it?

That's great, but they werent arrested or charged with a DUI as far as any reports show. So it doesn't matter if their breath smelled like back ally dick or Indian curry. It amounts to the same as being arrested for murder but the cop mentioning in the report that you were speeding.

It's bad for GM and bad for these two. Had they not been leaving a bar, I would expect this to be swept under the rug and the two of them to lose a couple of years of career progression.

The scent of alcohol is totally a flake comment as each could have had one beer and with the pics, above, I doubt it would have done much to their BAC. But, they were leaving a bar with factory loaners, and that is definitely not a good thing. Most engineers would not even go to a bar with their test cars. Park at Duggan's (Woodward hangout), sure, but go in? Nope.

I also laughed at the Animal House quote, because while they may not have been drunk, at least one of them was kind of fat and both were stupid.

Dunno. In contexts outside of public roads I'd say that it has way more to do with wealth than skill. Rich guys don't race miatas, whether they are pros or hacks.

In this day and age of corporate/social responsibility, I'm just not sure a large company will view actions like this as passion or positive advertisement, but I could be wrong.

Bingo. When I was a young engineer elsewhere in Detroit being handed keys to an M-plate for the first time, I was told not to even park an M-Plate at a bar.

I think this is a bad thing, should they get fired? well that's up to their bosses. Do I think this is a huge PR blunder for GM that requires any type of response? no not really. At best this is a local story and outside of car dorks nobody cares that much. Throw the book at them legally for street racing but as far as their jobs or the reputation of the Corvette and GM itself? give me a break.

But expensive consequences for these two idiot "engineers". I'm certain that GM will fire them, they have to really.

Now go back to the mid 80s and prior, before that stupid MADD, when DAMM ruled and it might be a different story.
I tend to agree that these guys made a stupid mistake and should be punished but probably not fired.

So true my friend. This is common among law enfarcement, and other government higher level gov't employees.
All you have to do is look at YT and see the cops own videos of these guys getting special treatment, often times other cops that pull these drunk cops over will usually either let a friend or family come and get them and take them home without any more legal involvement or the other cop will drive them home.

It could be worse. Imagine how much trouble they would be in if there was alcohol involved.

I hate this clout era. Maybe GM should have someone murdered in a C8 next. Think of the free press! All attention isn't good attention.

I think it is going to be a net positive result for the C8. And people do dumb things and make (sometimes awful) mistakes. In this case these goofballs got caught and nobody was hurt. Surely they've learned their lesson and likely other auto engineers who get access to cars will take note also. Overall it seems like a positive outcome.
