It is crazy how little they are discounted. A 4 year old jetta with the 1.4t is 16k? Really?

That very first one, the Versa. Did it even cost that much in 2012??? That is just crazy to me.

No surprise on the Ridgeline. The market released it wasnt a real truck.

I don't understand how one manages to not sell some of these. A Wrangler or Tacoma should be able to walk out of the showroom without even trying; never mind having them on the lot for years on end.

Just like that isn't a real sentence.

Are we sure most of these vehicles actually exist?

I bet a lot of these are glitches, like accidentally not removed from their inventory, or service loaners that are still in the fleet, etc.

Some are definitely mistakes. I clicked that F-250 and it has a free Carfax with a full service history up to 140k miles.

Obviously I didn't check all of them, but I did find two that were mislabeled. Also, I'm guessing that many of these are actually "used" aka they did get titled, entered the DMV system, etc and can't be sold as new. IIRC in most states, if the sale is finalized and they drive off the lot, the car is legally sold, even if it gets returned the next day with just one more mile on it.

My main question is why any dealer would hang on to a car like that for so long? Maybe the dealer people on here can help me out, but at a certain point wouldn't it be better to trade it somewhere else or let it go at a huge discount? Most of the prices on the cars listed make NO sense.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of vehicles more than 20 years old in the USA that are still on their Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO), having never been titled. Many are probably owned by dealership principals for marketing display, investment or sentimental purposes. And even if they're not listed for sale I bet most of them would say "everything is for sale at the right price."

      Interesting thread.

I came across this car a while back, not exactly NOS so it doesn't fit the parameters here because it has 14,000 miles on it and 4 different owners.

However, I was somewhat astonished at the asking price which is a little over a grand more than original MSRP ($31,150).

I went to the dealers website for the 2014 Passat (Mikestevenvolkswagen.com) just to see how much they are asking, but they dont have a price listed.

However, something else interesting I found is that they also have a listing for a "Brand New" $40,000 2011 Vw Routan, a "Brand New" $46,600 2012 VR6 Sport Touareg, and a "Brand New" 2013 $26,210 Passat SE 2.5

Of course, none of these cars have any pictures, so they MAY be inventory glitches as above.

But the 2014 Passat is legit.

Any of those actually show up as new inventory on the dealership website?
      I doubt it.
      .
Also, floor planning was actually a revenue up until two and a half years ago due to low interest rates for what was subsidized by the manufacturers.
So they could leave old inventory on the books and make money with the floor planning, or sell it an show a loss and loose their sales bonuses.
Now on special/unusual vehicles, I could see a dealership openly deciding to just keep floor planning it for showroom traffic- part of their advertising budget.
I think Lotus used to have that issue in the US market- many dealers didn't really try to sell new Lotuses, they just wanted a V8 Esprit on the showroom floor because it drew in people.

      .
And title should have been oldest new stock, not newest old stock.

Oldest legit one that comes up is a 2016 Alfa 4C:

The first 6 are not on their respective dealers website.

However like I said right above you, the 2014 Passat IS actually on their website with pictures and everything. Legit odometer reading of approx 36 miles.
