Thread: Suggestions for after market muffler VR6

    1. 02-14-2020 06:03 PM #1
I just bought an MKIII VR6. It has an OBX racing sport exhaust. I can't stand it. Horribly loud. I would like to have a muffler that sounds as close to possible to the stock muffler. Any ideas? Appreciate it.

You could check out the part outs, and buy the originano muffler for pretty much free, and then get it installed? There's a lot more involved in that; that's the short version.
... and if you don't know, now you know.

Magnaflow systems tend to be on the more conservative side of the sound spectrum. If you don't want to pony up for the full Magnaflow system, check the Techtonics Tuning resonated w/Magnaflow systems. We had one with aluminized piping and the Magnaflow muffler on 2.0L mk3 Jetta. It was just enough that you got some good noise when the window was down and your foot was in it, but it was drone free on the highway and not obnoxious so as to not piss off the neighbors.

Thanks for you replies. I found a muffler from MAC mufflers that supposedly is match to OEM. That's what I want. I also found $50 muffler from discountautopartswarehouse seller on ebay that looks like perfect match. Any feedback on that?
      thanks

Came across a 2012 GLI muffler for $40. Will this fit on my '94?

This vote is to avoid eBay parts. Sure, sometimes you get a huge win, but a lot of times it ends up with janky parts from the cheapest part of China.

No comment on Mac, having never heard of them.
