      2019 Tiguan Highline

I'm trying to be fair in this thread, since some features typically won't be available at a certain pricepoint. I'm also aware that VW is constantly trying to differentiate the Audi brand, which blocks some things we'd like to see in the Tiguan.

With that in mind, here's what I reasonably think has been missed:

-Heated rear seats: This is available in competing brands, at the same price point.

-Rear Camera Under Badge: This seems like a real miss, because the current camera is always dirty. Curious how much they saved by omitting the flip/flop badge solution used in so many other VWs.

-No Sliding Visor for Front Passenger: The driver's side slides, but the passenger's does not. Again, was this for minor cost savings?

-No HomeLink Without X Package: I don't consider HomeLink as a high-tech item, only belonging in a package with high-priced tech add-ons. It should be basic, or at lest mid-trim available.

-Quality Carpet: Unsure how to describe this, but our "Highline" model (highest trim aside from R) has that "hairy" carpet you often find in a trunk. The type that can never be fully vacuumed. Have never seen it inside a vehicle before - ugh. Cost savings yet again?

      Any others?

The camera has it's own washer nozzle, not sure how dirty your getting, but even on snow days it gets clean with a squeeze. If the camera system you're referring to has a mechanical component, I'd say it's more about reliability than cost, but both are relevant.

I agree with the "carpet" observation. VW should be ashamed to put that in any vehicle. Mine are fully covered with their muddy buddy mats so not really visible but still substandard.

Maybe that's their justification? Mine came with all weather mats, I feel like even the cloth mats are the same cheap material...

I'm assuming this is based on a NAR Tiguan.

Some ROW Tiguans come with rear heated seats. Actually the ROW Tiguans have a lot of quality improvements in lots of areas (albeit with a much higher pricepoint).

      Rear Climate + heated seats
      Adjustable headrests for front seats
      Heads-up display
Soft touch rear door panels with ambient lighting
      Removable torch in trunk
      Adjustable armrest
      Hideaway cup holders
      Autohold feature

If there's any glaring omission I wish the NAR Tiguan had it was cooled front seats. Lots of cars in this segment/pricepoint have that feature. Oh and the adjustable armrest.

Homelink is a dealer acccessory you can add on to any trim. Easy DIY too.

I second the cooled front seats.

I just want to point out that is the case with VW for many many years. You can do same comparison between any NAR vs ROW model. NAR is always less equipped. There are many reasons for that...

      Cooled front seats
Kessy rear doors - i know you can retrofit. Not the point.
Homelink - No excuse for not including this in our Highline trim.
      Power passenger seat - seriously.
A proper sunglasses holder - yes, there are options, but it should have come with one.
Auto-dimming side mirrors - i'd rather have these than the folding mirrors
A reasonable towing capacity - even 2000lbs would be better.

Make the R an actual performance model adding at least 60-80hp, lower stiffer suspension, rear bar and bigger brakes.

      You mean buying the mirror?

My point is that many vehicles have this on lower trims, but the Tiguan does not.

      Great points:

-Forgot about (lack of) Kessy on rear doors. Does burn me every once in a while when I put something in the back seat first.
      -Power passenger - good one.

Both of the above are on competing models.

I'm fine with the sunglass holder next to the left knee, but take your point.

Comparing my 19 Tiguan SEL R-line to my 19 Toyota Rav 4 Adventure line that i ended up giving to my wife because her Civic lease was up and wanted it..... both had $37,000 MRSP's

      I wish my Tiguan had:

      1)LED Headlights...Really VW..no LED heads in 2019 on a 37,000 SUV? Rav 4 came with them
      2)Cooled Seats- Rav 4 yeap
      3)Lane Departure Assist---Another +1 for the Rav 4
4)200+ HP Mark one off again for the Rav 4
      5)Heated steering wheel---Check for the Rav 4
6)A Sound system--The VW's was so bad i had to go aftermarket replacements and add a sub... and i haven't been into car Audio in 20 years, thats how bad it was. The RAV 4's base line(non Fender system) is 10x better than the VW Sound System is.
7)Better MPG's..... The Rav 4's 2.5L was giving me 26.5MPG..Im around 22.5 with the Tiguan..same every day commute both driven about 7000 miles
