Wasn't sold on the headlights and grille at first but this angle really does invoke the original:

Corvettes are like that, or at least they were in the C5/C6 era.

i really like the whole car. The rectangular grill is a little less exciting, but everything else is clean and fantastic. It looks like they were making a point of going the opposite direction of the Supra; straight lines, no fake vents, legacy shape and cues.
Japan insisted on this color-it wasn't the first choice and looks a lot better in natural sunlight via darker hues. Alfonso has had his sports car hand slapped after his public attempt to get the revised GT-R approved (oh and not to mention, burning money via the GT-R 50 program) so he had to play nice with Japan design-and these are the result. The profile was set way back when and was always a knockout, but the front graphics were a bit of a 'last minute' revision-and unfortunately it shows. But proportionally this still remains spot on.

Do you anticipate any changes (cleaning up) to the front graphics in transition from proto to production?

They're really maximizing the grill area but I wouldn't expect it to need that much airflow, but what do I know?

Yes! This, all the way. And that seems like an increasingly difficult thing to do.

Nah I’m out on this. Looks too much like a 350z as opposed to the s30 which they have been trying to tease as the inspiration here. I am however pumped to get my hands on this motor and try to swap it into my s30.

Except 3 times taller on a featureless nose with cross-eyed headlights.

Overall I love this car but the straight-on front is just really poorly executed imo.

I'd buy this over the Toyota depending on how it drives.

Devil will be in the details, but I have a hard time complaining about anything RWD/MT these days. Looks like a Z car to me.

In today's market of pedestrian impact, side impact, and offset frontal impact standards you're simply not going to get a light and lithe bodystyle from any car short of a dedicated platform engineered to the Nth degree, such as the Miata. Nissan simply cannot afford to do that, and we're lucky to get a thorough refresh since they're in financial trouble. I think they've done an outstanding job given those parameters.

      speaking of which...

I hope they skip the convertible and go with the targa top.
I loved the Z32 ( I know the Supra was king but I didn't care), except as a teen I could never own one, and as the years went by they became too difficult to find / afford.

I want to like it, but I'm not feeling it. For the expected ~ $45,000 I'd take a Supra or Mustang GT. Z32 is still my #1. Wish the motor was easier to work on.

I can understand people preferring something else if they don't like the new Z. I'm not really sure how much I like it at this point. I think I might prefer a used C7. Having written that, I'm not sure I'd ever consider a supra or mustang. My feeling on the supra and Z are polar opposites. I' quite fond of the styling of the supra, but the lack of a manual and the BMWness of it are a major turn-off. OTOH, I like a lot about what I'm hearing about what makes the Z tick, but I'm a little underwhelmed by the styling. Personally, I'd give the edge to the Z. And the mustang? Fool me once, lol. I can't argue the performance or the styling, but to get the level of performance they offer at the price they're at (focusing on the GT version), the attention to detail and build quality is far less than I expect. And it drives at least as big as it is, which I do not like. The Z is, IMO, the sweet spot between something like the 86/miata and the pony cars. I feel like the Z is "just right". As someone noted above, the devil will be in the details though.
