I've never Pay-pal paid for a car in my life, so that was new. But thanks to Vad's thread, I bought a less than perfect but fun little electric car. I hope to drive it soon, as its in San Jose, and I'm not there.

      But here's the car.

I'm kind of pumped, but I need to figure out how to get it home.

Haha awesome, I was wondering if somebody would capitalize on these. Not sure how bad a truck road trip to CA would be for you but I can't imagine the Ram would sweat trailering it.

I’m thinking about making a terrible decision, I’m looking at purchasing a vehicle (private party) that’s several states over, so I’m curious how you went about this. I’m guessing ppi, then send funds to the seller, then ship? How do you send funds but ensure the seller doesn’t disappear?

It looks like the ultimate cross-country vehicle, so I am certain you will want to drive it. Let me see, San José to SW Kansas should be about 1500 miles.

So assuming a range of about 100 miles per charge, you could make 15 overnight stops for recharging. Your route would take you across multiple mountain ranges, and through long and desolate stretches of roadway. All while traveling in a car with which you are completely unfamiliar. Cell phone service may be weak or nonexistent in stretches.

      What could possibly go wrong?

If you drive the EV in reverse, the battery will never deplete.

That's how you get it from CA to KS without stopping to recharge.

My Dad lives there. He went and looked at it for me, texted me the seller's contact info and I sent the Moola.

I already have a trailer. I may try to see if someone needs something shipped out to San Jose to pay for my trip.

Or, I could just have it shipped.

Congrats! These are fun little EVs.

Another option to ship the car is a shipping broker such as Montway.

If you need it, here is a PDF of the owner's manual: http://cdn.dealereprocess.com/cdn/se.../2018-500e.pdf

I suggest 1) removing the rear head restraints for better visibility and 2) ensure that the level 1 charging cable is included with the car, or get ready to order another one if it's not there ($150 on eBay). There is an underfloor compartment in the rear hatch area to store the cable. Keeping it in the car is helpful for peace-of-mind in case you needed an emergency charge from a power outlet somewhere, or to charge at level 1 speed at home.

Excellent suggestions! Thanks for the manual.

I have a friend from Indiana who often does shipping runs to the San Jose area. As it turns out, he's buying a really nice trailer from my dad, so he's going to drive out and bring the car to me to $500. I get to support my friend's business and get my dad's trailer sold. That worked out really well!

Damn, I was going to suggest a TCL 500E group buy! commission a double decker hauler and driver, load it up with cars and deliver to folks across the country! In to see how it works out. They're so cheap these days and I know from owning the i3 that we can live with ~80 miles of range the vast majority of the time

We could deal direct with FCA's bank and go around collecting all the off-lease 500e's stuck in people's driveways at wholesale price. Make the car an accidental TCL darling.

Chrysler capital sucks to deal with. That would turn me off to the whole ordeal.

Isn't this the third car you've bought in like 30 days? And they say the economy is tanking 😛
