Well, I finally got round to rotating my wheels on my blue SE today at 11k miles and got to inspect the brakes too.
Both front rotor have heavy groves in them - I would estimate up to 0.7mm, which is very unusual in my experience at such a low mileage - the pads look they are also 1/2 worn too. I know... its all about driving style, but other VW cars I have had in the past have only shown this type of wear at close to 70K
As a sanity check I looked at my SELP Arteon which has 4500 miles and exactly the same thing!! My 12 yr old Audi S5 , with 82k miles with original rotors were only finely scoured by comparison.
My question is has anyone had brake pad or rotors needing replacement yet, or observed heavy front rotor /pad wear?
what is the condition of your fronts? They are easy to inspect through spokes of the wheel.
Wow! I was just thinking the same thing with our Arteon with only 2,000 miles. Heavy grooves in the front rotors - so much so that I contemplated taking it in to Dealer and asking about warranty coverage...
Yea, I looked mine and I have heavy grooves in the front at 2000 miles. I will need them turned or possibly new rotors by the first oil change. I drive pretty aggressively, but normally make it >40K plus miles for rotor turning. I saw that there is a brake recall for the Arteon, but I don't think it is related to this.....

Thinking a little more about it, this doesn't sound like a regular "heavy wear". It sounds like your rotors are failing prematurely and need to be replaced. This should not happen with mileage as low as 2000 miles.
My guess is that the brake parts are mismatched, i.e. the discs are too soft for the type of pads used, or the pads are very low grade/defective and are destroying the rotors, or something else is not functioning properly.

Yes that was my immediate reaction - bad batch of rotors, BUT, I have two Arteons with build dates a year apart - first and last batch of 2019 and both cars are the same with 5k and 11k miles on them. I figured the dealers is going to say “ they are wear items” so this week I ill contact VWoA and complain.... not that it will do any good. The pads were down also.
Mine are showing the grooves on the front right rotor, at 1018 miles. 4 grooves, sort of evenly spaced about 1/2" apart. Not very deep, but you can catch a finger nail in them. The other rotors look normal, at least on the outer side.
The Arteon is never driven aggressively. My 2001 passat got 104k miles on the original front pads and rotors, and still had nearly new rotor thickness.

(BTW, very interesting to compare/contrast the posts in our more traditional forum here vs the various FB groups -- beats me whether it's self-selection bias vs the posting format, but this forum definitely encourages more detailed informative posts, whereas the latter gives rise to more fun kind of little snippets.)
We just bought a 2020 Arteon RLine ..... and at 10000 miles , the right front rotor has serious grooves in the rotor ..... the left has monor grooves ..... the rears are perfect. My 2018 jetta rline .... has 60000 miles and not one groove .... never had pads replaced . Anyone get vw to fix this issue?
I had to replace all rotors and pads at 12,300. 300 miles past the warranty coverage period for the brakes, naturally. The total cost was about $590. But my advisor said that the materials are too soft and that VW most likely will never cover them. If you still go to the dealership you bought the car from & it's been serviced there, sometimes they will work with you on prices.
But you are covered under warranty for 1yr / 12k miles on brakes
I'm at 9000 miles and the brakes vibrates during hard braking but comes and goes. Bought the maintenance package for it but its only covers 1 set in the 5 year coverage. So we'll see how it plays out. Due for oil change soon anyways
