Thanks for that, Ved. I can just barely hear Shannon and Wes simultaneously saying, "Hold my beer, I need more quality time on eBay."

Speaking of, I think I forgot to post Parklife’s stellar contribution to my Corvette wardrobe:

I guess it’s not Corvette specific. I should probably wear it anytime I’m driving the Bolt, too. (Save for the fact that this thing is *warm*.)

Fantastic outfit. 9/10. Just need some white socks (pulled up to the shin) and maybe a Casio G-shock instead of the iWatch, and watch panties drop.

White socks are being ordered. Hadn’t thought about the Casio; good call.

Right. Eliminate all survivors but one. Check.

-Thanks to the generosity of 16volt, I am now fully into the Corvette Lifestyle(tm). Can’t wait to be able to show up at Cars and Coffee fully decked out. Any advice on where I can find a braided leather belt would be appreciated—feels like it’d tie the whole outfit together.
Very, very nice. I'm surprised you don't have a Corvette(tm) watch and Corvette(tm) sunglasses.

Tom, who shouldn't talk, given he put chrome "Telluride" license plate surrounds on his Telluride

And a decent C5 is now a sub-$10k proposition. Just saying.
You sure they are that cheap? Generally when cars get that old, its all about condition, and the average C5 is probably in pretty worn out condition and mileage these days, and I'd expect a cherry one would be rare enough it'd fetch a pretty penny.

I found at least two C5's (without looking much, given my focus was on C6's) that were $10k cars, both manual, ~100-120k miles, both clean title, looked to be in decent shape overall, etc.

Given the very little searching I did, I have to think there are more out there like them. Will they be 100% mint for that price? No. But they looked to be very good starting points for whomever might be in the market. If my budget had been limited to $12k, I would have looked at both of them.

Here's a $12k asking car that I bet would go for $10.5k: https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/...129695252.html (I don't love the striping or the wheels, but otherwise it looks to be a very well maintained car in good shape overall.)

Good news is, apart from things like a clutch or slave cylinder job, most replacement parts on these cars are *cheap*. Bilsteins? $95/corner. OEM C6 Z51 Swaybar kit? $269.99. Even things like pads/rotors aren't crazy expensive (although you can spend as much as you want, depending on your intended use and depth of pockets).

      hahaha. This thread is amazing.

The irony of this all is that, through this "joke" of you accumulating these nostalgic items as a "joke", you'll end up loving and embracing the corvette lifestyle and never looking back. You're becoming converted as those before you have.

It will take work though. Sure, anyone can visit the jewelry department at Costco and accessorize, but for many of us we have to hone our bodies too with applications of rogaine every evening to our chests to cultivate the required manliness.

Hmmm... I'll break it to the wife. I guess I'll have to sell the Bug. Going from 50 hp to 400 (ish) is going to be quite the culture shock!

I already use Rogaine on my head...do I really have to use it on my chest too? Can't I just get a chest wig?

Sadly, I don't think it works with the NPP exhaust (vacuum valves are on top of the inside pipes).

Also, this isn't a yellow convertible automatic with chrome wheels and never less than 1 golf bag in the trunk, so...

C5's are only 350hp in base form, IIRC. So you'll be just fine!

Also, c'mon. How long has that bug been sitting in your garage unfinished? You're ready for a change, right?

Got a few things done on the Corvette today...
-Wireless switch for the dual mode exhaust installed
      -1–>4 skip shift eliminator installed
      -Clutch fluid flushed
      -Oil/filter changed

Need a couple of other things to jack the car up and put jack stands under it safely, so didn’t take on the bigger job of installing the shocks.

Got a chance to drive it for the first time on the new Michelin’s. The biggest change was that it is significantly quieter. I can hear valvetrain noise at lower road speeds now, for instance. Steering feel is also significantly improved. Can’t speak to the ride quality as the road surface was pretty smooth.

It is surprisingly clean for an 8 year old car underneath.

Fun to do some work on it with my Dad. More next weekend, I think, and then I’ll get some time driving it.

Yeah, thus far it is...I only wish we could hop in it and do a big road trip. Hopefully next summer.

We’ll do some more work next weekend on it.

This arrived yesterday, courtesy of Parklife.

I’m now looking for just the right belt for it...what would go best?

I have. I think it's designed so that you can leave a quart of oil in it to let it drain with no hands. I haven't used one, so I can't confirm.

I think that's the intent, yeah. Dad clearly didn't use it that way. His funnel, his rules.
