Any one have any idea as to why someone would put this here? I bought the car used. Really confused why this would be here.

Agreed. The dealer I purchased it from knows the person who did it so I think he is going to reach out and see what they say. Hopefully i can figure it out... I am also wondering what part I would need to replace it if anyone has that I am all ears.

I'm guessing maybe they had a button or a knob there (for a audio amp?), but yeah no way of for sure knowing unless you find some wiring

Knowing VW, they'll probably want to sell you the whole shifter assembly.
I'd see if you can find a small plastic plug/insert from a hardware store, if even for the time being.

Yea I think that it had to be for that. The owner had the audio all contorted to make it seem like he was needing MOAR power for the bass.

Besides what everyone has already mentioned, the only other thing I can think of is a kill switch for a lidar blocking system (it looks a bit small for this but I'm not on top of everything regarding this). Good luck.

It does look the correct size for a small switch. It addition to sound system it could be for really any accessory device or even some performance add-on.

I understand why they felt the need to drill in that exact spot to install a switch. Because there aren’t enough blank buttons on this car...

LOL i was just noticing that! I just bought an SE and I'm like...man, i really cheated myself out of TONS of stuff for the 15 grand i saved. I visualize an entire different driving life with an R-Line. Are all those buttons full on R-Lines? Or are these just leftover Audi parts VW scooped up?

      SO many questions.......

Yep, that’s what this hog is. Makes no sense that there is just voided space. The lack of buttons doesn’t really bother me though. I’m more concerned about figuring out what the heck was there and now how to fill it without spending $220 on the whole part.

Love this car though. It had 6k mi on it and the guy also did a bunch of r-line badging to it. I wasnt a fan and just got the VW emblem for the boot today and took the goofy stickers off the front. He did wrap the chrome around the windows and doors though which I do like. It makes it look a bit more sleek.

I guess the hunt continues. I think I was just a bass knob or something. He had the EQ set to where my ears would hurt. The bass was all the way up as well as the treble. I did a double check to make sure the sub was by the tire and it is there. I need to do some more investigation to see if maybe he ran some more cables or something.

I was thinking that I would print out a bunch of decals with weird symbols to put on the blank buttons. Would be fun for it to look like they did something .....

On my Alltrack the park assist buttons were also there. They could have kept them there too. I wonder why instead they put them above the infotainment? My guess is that it makes more sense for them to be near the infotainment because of interaction that the additional cameras require.
