Muffler and exhaust pipe have rusted out again on my 86 up here in Massachusetts, despite Magic Tape, and I can't find a replacement - one with the hangers welded to it.
      Can I find one somewhere?
Or any ideas besides getting a universal muffler and welding some hangers (I don't weld)? Like is there any way to rig it so hit stays put without welding?
      Tnx!

Haven’t had an 8v in a long time (12 years or so)and I remember back then having trouble finding exhaust/muffler parts for the car. Guess I was looking more towards performance.

Thinking that's where I might be going.
Just found a place that sells a Dynamax cat-back system for $244+
      Maybe ...
      Tnx.

My brother had one of those Dynamax catbacks on an '88 Jetta 8v. It had a nice tone but not loud. No welding needed. He really liked it. It looked very factory except for the tip, although I think he installed a tip he already had.

The only place I would buy an exhaust from is TT...

      This.

I'm still running their aluminized pipes I bought some 25 years ago and the pipes have some 150k miles on them.

Back when I had my '84 8v I put a Techtonics aluminized system on my car. Fit was great and no complaints about the cost vs. value.

The TT exhaust would be my choice also if I had the money.

It's too bad TT doesn't have a two tip muffler for the 16V but I digress...

If I was on a budget, I'd get an estimate from a local muffler shop.

My original is still good. I saw yesterday that Brixy is running a dual tip Flowmaster.

Ansa was a good brand. Probably still is.

I think Ansa used to be popular with the import community back when that meant Fiats, Triumphs, Alphas and MGs.

Back when BAP/GEON was the only import parts store. Back when EMPI was the only aftermarket VW parts source.

If I remember correctly the son of EMPI's founder started Techtonics Tuning.

I was talking as if I were the OP when I said I would buy TT if I had the money.
