I figure I should start a new thread since the last one was about purchasing a car, and now that I have the car, well, the topic has evolved quite a bit.

Currently the to do list includes:

Car needs a good detail. I gave it a bath and found a few blemishes, there's a small dent in the right front fender, and a few scratches and a couple paint chips in the rear left quarter panel. The bottom of the skirts and front bumper spoilers have some normal scrapes from bottoming out over the years. The carpet has a few slight stains from previous owner eating something in the car. There are some rattles from various plastic bits in the interior. Hatch lift support struts are blown - ordered monroe replacement struts. The tire iron and cardboard that goes above the spare tire has some corrosion and needs to be replaced.

I plan to keep the car mostly if not entirely stock. A few wants:
-Cold air intake (if I can find one that doesn't require hacking away half the car to install it - looks like this k&n might be the best bet but it's unclear if this works with the 2zz, the install guide is for a 1zz) Most of the true cold air intakes that have the filter in the fender well require cutting a bunch of stuff to install. I think this kn kit is the best of both worlds, easy to install like a short ram but with that heat shield it should be a bit less of a hot air intake than a typical short ram.

-The stereo has no AUX jack or bluetooth, so I've been using an FM to bluetooth adapter. The issue is the FM antenna seems to get a lot of static, so I'm not sure if there is an issue with the antenna or what. It gets static on regular FM channels, not just with my adapter. I think there are aux adapters you can get for the factory JBL system that just plug into the back of the head unit. Ideally would like to leave the stock head unit and get the aux adapter if I can. The difference in quality from using the FM radio vs a CD is massive. It's definitely got good sound quality if it weren't' for the static.

-Possibly a replacement shift knob in the future. The stock one is a pretty generic looking leather wrapped shift knob. It's nice but nothing special.

I just de-dealership-badged it. Waiting for my new plates...

I found this hilarious intake setup on youtube btw... this is so stupid https://i.imgur.com/foUR7R7.png

This was one of my favorite cars in high school, the early ones with the 8200 redline were hilarious to drive.

Very cool car in probably its best color, and the commercials were funny. Can't wait to see the updates.

Am I the only one that interprets 'action package' as 'happy ending'?

Nice looking car, OP. Pretty much forgot these ever existed. How's the rust? I used to worry about 15 year old Japanese cars. Now I worry about all 10 year old cars.

I remember these zipping around in highschool.

Does the Action Package include the front windshield wing?

      Congrats, definitely in for updates.

Crutchfield sells single-din and double-din dash kits, FYI. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-FVce7l...s-Stereos.html Should be straightforward to add Apple CarPlay / Android Auto or install a $20 Blaupunkt Toronto for Bluetooth

Seriously awesome car. I casually search for these regularly and all the ones up here are completely beat. That looks like it's in great shape. I love the 2zz in my Elise and would love to have a more usable car with that motor in it too. Enjoy!

      Bruh. We need more pics.

But great score, and its good to see TCL influence another purchase. I hope you enjoy this car. IMO, this is a future classic.

Sweet! Congrats on it and glad it all worked out. It looks great.

Does it have the window sticker? I bet it has all the options!

Yes! I'm fairly sure it has all the options, though there is no subwoofer in this one, I am fairly sure that was an option. It's all stock, the only mod it has is a plug-in block/oil heater lol...

It's rust free. The thing had 12500 miles when I scooped it up in Austin, Texas. Closer to 15,000 now that I'm home!

There were 2 different "action packages"
one is the TRD kit and the other is referred to as the Tsunami Edition.
I'm not sure about the windshield wings, I don't think that is part of the action package in any form. I think it's more of a dealer TRD accesory.

Wow, that thing is clean! It's like a coupe version of your Corolla with 1/15 the mileage and no issues. Awesome

Nice snag. Jealous of your trip to Austin (used to live there) and trip back!

My FIL owned an '01 GT for years (when I was in high school) right up until last year when he sold it when my son was born (he wants to be a doting grandpa!) at around 140-150k. He too must have hated the shift knob, because he took the one out of his old Celica (I think it was an '89?) and put that on the car. It actually fit the scheme of the car pretty well, had a chrome trim ring and had old-school leather wrapping on it - very '90s.

classic elite.mafia...no mention of the kind car lounger who directed him to this car...

just remember, you on your own searching for a new car left you buying a POS Elantra. Show some humility and appreciation.

and since when does the CL give a F about a build thread that includes changing out a shift knob on a 12k time-capsule.

I have thanked him numerous times. That was rude and uncalled for.

OMG having school flashbacks now! This was a HOT car back then, still looks pretty good IMO

Don't the GTS models have an issue with the transmission, erm rather drivers who can easily trash the car by shifting wrong?

They have an "issue" with money shifting. Don't money shift, no issues.... Kind of the same thing as most every other car ever made... I don't understand why people point that out as a platform issue. It's a driver issue.

So we now know the body color headlights aren't xenon. But still cool nonetheless.
