I did some searching and didnít find anything specific so I figured I would make a quick post and see what are the best options currently.

      This is where Iím at:

2019 GTI - stock brakes felt fine - no noise - terrible dust (as Iím sure everyone is aware)

Iíve just swapped in the Stoptech z23 pads front and rear (z23-1633 & z23-1108)
I read such good things about these pads but Iím not super impressed as I now have the clunk when switching directions and hitting the brake pedal. I guess I could live with it but I would like to see what else is out there. Iím basically just looking something similar to stock but less dust as the title says. Iím not tracking the car so no real need for higher performance pads at this time.

Thanks for any advice and ideas. Iím sorry if this has already been gone over I didnít find much while searching the forum.

Z23 and Stoptech don't belong in the same sentence.

      Powerstop markets the Z23 pads

The Golf R folks love the Centric posi quiet ceramic

But I have a love and mostly hate relationship so far (it's been about a month though)

Not super concerned with budget they are seem to be in a similar price range. I just donít want the clunking so I donít mind paying if I can get the low dust and better fitting pads.

I like the iSweep IS1500's that I've had since late July. Practically zero dust and no fitment issues (I have TT-S calipers, but have heard the same from owners with stock R/GTI calipers)

Im pretty sure I had the isweeps on my golf r, they bit like a mofo but we're great dust wise. Ver high quality

Another pad I've always liked was hawk hps.

Edit: correction, I had the isweep 2000's that bit really hard. The 1500s should be more stock like

Iíve always ran hawk hps on previous vws. Maybe Iíll try them once more on my mk7. Never had any clunking noises but then again the pads mounted differently than these cars.

I like them, too, however you can't get them for the rear of the car. Only fronts.

Why? I'm running EBC Reds and am very happy with them. Quiet, clean, not overly aggressive. What's not to like?

Comparing with a friend who has EBC Reds vs my Centric PosiQuiets, Iíd say the Reds are 50% cleaner than stock, whereas the Centrics are 90% cleaner than stock.

EBC is junk sorry to tell you, they perform worse and dust more than other pads.

Your friend's Reds must be different than mine. I get approximately no brake dust with mine. Ok, more than none but no noticeable dust after 2500 miles (mostly highway).

One thing we should all agree on: Stock pads should be replaced with better pads.

Wow, that is clear evidence. Guess I should rush out to the dealer and get some new OEM pads.

Concur. Just wish I could get matching pads (front and rear). Why doesn't the performance community step up?

And what's your proof, aside you said so?

Yes, I had EBC redstuff before. They were a lot better than Hawk HPS

EBC redstuff has a friction coefficient rating of FF, so it can't be worse than other pads

And what rotors did you pair them with to have a dusting issue? If it's slotted, then the slots are doing what they are intended to do

Why does every thread turn into this stuff? I know from experience that ebc perform worse and dust more, I know the general consensus is that ebc is junk from many other people too. Then a couple guys who have ebc pads on their car somehow think they should defend their purchase.

Just to toss a little more fuel on the fire...

It seems to me the general consensus among the forum crowd is that OEM pads suck. Why is that? I have PP brakes, and frankly, these are some of the best OEM brakes I have ever used in my life. When the time comes to replace the pads, I plan on sticking with OEM. (Note, I'm referring to general driving conditions, not track use).
